Refurb of a hammer gun

Afternoon, I've recently acquired a nice 12g hammergun, damascus barrels, nice wood and in proof.

Before I go off and start using it, I'd like to get it stripped down and serviced. The forend grip on it is also a bit loose, but isn't the type you can tighten up with a screw.

Its worth about £400 , so I was wondering how much all of the above would cost to get done, assuming there isn't anything horrendously wrong with it!

Also, any recommendations for a gunsmith that could do the work near Chelmsford?

Most gun smith should be able to do a strip and clean, you could even do that yourself , if any thing is wrong then it will have to be a gun smith. Pleased that you say the gun still has its original damascus barrels because a large majority have been sleeved , I have had shooters come to me and say they have a hammergun or box or sidelock by a well know maker on examining the gun you find that it had been resleeved and restocked the only original part was the action and over restored thus spoiling the chareter of the gun.A gun which is a 100 + years should look its age restored yes but not buffed like new as though it had just come off the shelf, there is nothing worse than handling a gun of this age with crisp checkering buffed bright action or blued the modern blue, most of these blued actions were fired blue or Birmingham blacked.
