James19306
Hi everyone I'm just trying to find out what the legalities of buying and selling guns privately from a Perspective of someone in Northern Ireland with a PSNI FAC. Basically I would like to buy a rifle from gun dealer and would like to put a beretta shotgun up for sale. As no local dealer has what I'm after I cannot just trade in the shotgun to help fund the rifle so it is possible to sell it privately and if I do sell it what will happen to the my allowance to have a 12 gauge shotgun on my license as it would take a while to replace it? Any help from an NI member or anyone in the know would be very much appreciated. Many thanks James.
millrace
Can be done but at some point you will need a RFD to put something on and off your ticket....IE buy a gun mainland get it RFD to here he rites it on,, sell yours either local or over water you need RFD to send or if local you CD meet the buyer at his RFD and get him to take it off and put on or you send letter with both licences stating the sale to an,other to psni they remove your and add to his... Sureshott
Hi James , it would be easier to go to a dealer and agree a price to get you a rifle. That way if he is interested he can take your old gun a funding. Or buy the rifle, use the shotgun as funding and I am sure the dealer has a DBBL which is a donor gun. One on, one off if you know what I mean. That way you will have a DBBL on your license and I don't think you have to apply for a new request for a DBBL to be added to your certificate. If I am incorrect in this can someone give a bit of better advice. Where are you in this vast country of ours ? P.M me if you wish
James19306
I have a hankering for something a bit different like a .17 Remington/.17 fireball maybe something .20 and was just hoping to sell shotgun for a bit of cash as I may get something semi custom built. Might make more sense to just hold onto shotgun buy rifle and get is sent to local rfd. Ps I'm from Dungannon.

I've done this a couple of times, everything went through smoothly and without a hitch. Depends on your RFD,but there's usually a fee for sorting the paperwork.
