Well, having a well earned day off today, I decided to go door knocking around south west Oxfordshire...my newly printed shooting contact cards in hand and off I went...I knocked on 15 doors and didn't get one sniff, I think there's 10 shooters for every farm down here😭......One farm I sat and watched and 4 muntys on his crop chomping away, my telling the farmer this, do you think it made a difference, nah, pigeons swooping in by the flock full, deer by the herd, and I couldn't get a look in...oh well, back foot knocking again tomorrow....

im originally from Abingdon so i know how tricky it can be getting a foot in the door over that way, as you say there seems to be a crowd of guns after each permission and still deer and vermin run around apparently untouched !!!

i moved away a while ago and guess what - Swindon is just the bloody same !!!!!!!!!

just gotta keep looking :good:

I expect that you were dressed from head to toe in cammo including those waterproof trousers.

I was about to ask that, but I'd like to think Lloydi is a bit smarter/wiser than that.

I do feel for you Lloydi, I think as time goes on, and considering how the press seem to hammer "us" (most of the time) it's only likely to get worse. It's that one foot in the door thing sometimes. But that one foot in, is so hard to come by...

Don't give up though, you will catch a break eventually.

I found my permission by visiting a local pub near a large farm in Bucks and speaking to the locals. Got a bit of a shoe in as my mate knew a few of them but I found the social environment a good way to share my experience. Buying a few pints helped of course but it may be an approach to tryout. But leave the Disco at home!

Good luck

I found the best time to ask is when there is some fresh drilling is being hammered by woodies, sometimes its only temporary, but it gets your foot in the door.

or find out who shoots it and talk to them if you can ,you may get to tag along with him/them.

good luck anyway?

Has the permission you got from Jdog dried up or something? I only ask as you posted a picture last year and said how many rabbits there were.

No, it closed over winter, but is back on line hopefully this week...but as all you bunny badgers know, once you overshoot be piece of land the rabbits and pigeons become very shy, so in trying to maximise my shooting opportunities....

Have you tried the approach of looking for a particular field with pigeons on, of rape for example and asking to shoot that field for just the day/afternoon that you ask and nothing more? That line of enquiry has developed into lots of permissions, even if we still have to ask/let the farmer know when we're going every time.

Flat out asking for permission to shoot on a farm isn't the best way of going about it, in my opinion.....farmers don't like the idea of giving someone they don't know from Adam free reign on their land it seems.

Why should he leave his disco at home? Do farmers expect you to walk everywhere then?

I think wingman was hinting more at having a drink or two and socialising would require said vehicle, or any vehicle for that matter to be left at home do as not to "drink and drive"...
