Dont use a RTO instead of, but use one as well as a normal crimp closere.

I use both types of crimp closure depends on what i am doing.

One thing i never do is RTO over a crimp closed case. This can bump the pressures up from what i have seen with the pressure test gun, if cases are not crimping tidy without RTO ing over the top, there is a problem some where either the case is too old and weakened or the crimper mech is set up wrong some where.

I use both also some loads in the shorter cases ie 12gauge 23/4" and 3" can be a tight fit with some of the bulky euro powders when loading steel shot and some times you can push the payload to its max and still get good speeds and low pressure the 3" loads that push 37.5grams of steel shot are a popular load that are hard to match with a star crimp finish. Charlton used this stile of load a lot on his early data disks

yes they are best used in a 31/2" auto this is a hot 37gram load posted up by dan the dane I use this at 40grains of powder and the overall length is to long for some 3" autos/pumps
