Winchester 23 Query

I just bought a Winchester 23 xtr after wanting on for quite some time, used it for the first time today and am really impressed, however having never owned a side by side had a query regarding the ejectors. Once fired the ejectors stay 'ejected' until the gun is closed, ie. It's upon closing the gun that the ejectors are reset, as a result closing the gun once fired is stiffer than closing when cocked. Is this normal?

Lucky man there pretty rare I've been after one for a while. What you describe is normal my silver kestrel sidelock is exactly the same actually a bit of a ****** to close after both barrels have been fired. As GordonR says your compressing the ejector springs when closing. Got any pics of the gun?

They didn't seem to be a popular choice of gun years ago when they were sold. That's probably why they are a bit rare. The impression that I got was that they were heavy, lifeless and cumbersome with a vent rib and a beaver forend in comparison to a comparable AyA.

Mine has not got a Beavertail forend and, with 25" barrels, is not cumbersome, even though proofed for 1-7/8 oz of lead.
