Hi Island gun.. don't want to put downer on your dream just want to offer some advice from a ex charter skipper

is the boat coded to MCA regulations = if your taking paying passengers its classed as a commercial charter therefore requires coding......... exception being if you take a friend or group off friends and you chip in for the fuel

coding requires you have all essential safety equipment for the amount of persons plus crew you are allowed to take out by the coding and categories "check out the MCA website"

have you a commercial inshore skippers qualification and a radio licence.

as I say its a great idea I done it a few year ago, bought a boat 40ft interceptor and done all my skippers training got the equipment etc, got it up to code specification prior to a MCA inspector came who assed it and classed it as cat 2 code C for 12 passengers, got it insured and hey hoo that was me set up.... it had to be coded for me to take on paying passengers or the insurance would be null and void if anything happened.

but as stated above friends or group who chip in is OK

it isn't my intention to spoil it for you I just wanted to inform you of the legalities and requirements,,,

I loved skippering my charterboat and met hundreds of folk during the time I done it and there is not one day goes by when I still think "should I do it again" possibly will when I get a bit older.

cheers fandango I was thinking to get it coded for 3 miles and have plenty of certificates, its not a dream just exploring a few ideas, the boat would probably need to be surveyed, registered, safety gear (life raft !) all expensive, weather is sometimes inclement :) and the size of the boat is against it, my time is also limited, Ive been taking friends out fishing for many years and often have tourist's ask if anyone is doing trips so there is potential for a bit of extra earnings if the costs allow it.

Thanks for all your replies folks :good:
