Mate came round yesterday with a mariner 3.3 outboard engine ..that was given to him by some "boating chancer"...you know the admiral type ...yaght club blah blah blah......take it away its seized old boy ..what what ...donchya know!!

anyway i started doing stuff to it and found out ...it had been laying on its side for a couple of years and water/condensation had gone into one of the crank bearings (ball) and rusted it...also found out that one of the end seals was inside out.......the engine has never been split so it was put together wrongly.....ordering up 2 bearings and 2 rubber seals ........jobs a gooden...

That is quite catchy.................i could advertise in Calais...........im sure i could get EU funding from the French

and on the trip over i could charge for food....you know good stuff like fish fingers...jellied eels first class...and the movie would be something like "wild geese"

  1. inner seal
  2. inner bearing
  3. outer seal
  4. outer bearing

2 weeks waiting list

i have rescued the seals and boiled them and they have regained their shape.....the offside bearing is still good so that can stay there !

Ditchy... If you can provide seal and bearing numbers (sizes not part no.s) and they're nothing too specialised I may be able to help you out :good:

Edit to say... Just spotted the location pin in the bearing so likely to be a special but a man with your talents could surely add a dowel pin to an outer bearing race.

seals anrnt too bad and i can get them locally fairly cheap....the standard bearing is cheap as well...if i had drills up to it i would remove the dowl pin and drill a hole in the new ones and bobs yer uncle.............just need a drill that could drill into a bearing race...........

still working on it..........

1st pic yucky thrusts............2nd..cleaned up and 3rd cleaned up bearing carrier and dropped thrusts back in

the thrust washers hold the bearings in a fixed postion which inturn hold the crank in position....
