Hello, i have just bought my girst shotgun for a bit of clay shooting and have been searching the forum to see what chokes people seem to start with. however it seems that everyone says 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 etc amd my chokes are

Full, imp modified, modified, imp cylinder and cylinder. Can anyone please tell me how the two names compare? At the place i shoot (jolly sailors pub if any of you know it) there is varied traps and some are pretty far away yet some close, my shotgun came fitted with full and modified.

Hope this simplifies things.

C - Cylinder = barrel diameter.

IC - Improved Cylinder - 1/4 = 10 thou tighter than barrel diameter.

M - Modified - 1/2 = 20 thou tighter than barrel diameter.

IM - Improved Modified - 3/4 = 30 thou tighter than barrel diameter.

F - Full = 40 thou tighter than barrel diameter.

For many clay shoots just put in skeet / skeet and you will get 99% of clays

Before removable chokes came in i would guess most guns with fixed choke were 1/4 and a 1/2 or 1/4 and 3/4 for field use

Its easy to become a choke changer at every stand, but most leave whatever they have in and shoot it all the time and if you do the same with Cartridges you know its only you if you miss
