Nick_MSM
Having just posted my SGC application off, I need to think about purchasing a cabinet. Having just suffered a couple of (nasty!) car repair bills I am on a bit of a budget unfortunately (ideally). I noticed this on eBay below - it looks similar to the 'Lion Guard' cabinet on Winterfield Safes. I have asked if it's BS approved etc - anyone know much about these? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LARGE-GUN-CABINET-SAFE-INNER-AMMO-LOCKBOX-HUNTING-RIFLE-SHORTGUN-POLICE-3-SCOPED-/322165523215? Tadorna
If that's your budget, buy it. Will be fine.
Moblies
looks like good value, if its anything like the picture when it turns up should be fine. let us know how it is, I could do with another one.
SimpleSimon
Looks very similar to a GDK one that I've just bought (similar price on eBay), the wife is applying for her shotgun certificate and can't share my cabinet because of my rifles so I wanted it cheap and cheerful and that's what it is. Locks are smooth, door hinges fine, finish isn't perfect but at 1/3 the cost of a Battonsound one I could forgive it for being much worse than it is. Most likely not at that price but you need to ask the question from the seller.
BrowningB525
They tend to be in line with the BS as opposed to approved. Which is fine.
Nick_MSM
Thanks all. I have asked the seller but no reply as of yet. I'll probably take a punt at that price. Will report back.

hawkfanz
it doesn,t say much about lock spec,,i think minimum of 7 levers is required,,but i would clarify that if i was you.
Nick_MSM
Update - Bought a used (well never used) cabinet via eBay, much like the one in my link. Quality seems decent to me. I have a new question though - my walls aren't square (ancient house), and neither are the floors actually! Is it possible to mount a thick piece of ply behind the cabinet to give it something square to sit against, and screw the lot into the wall with four M10 rawl bolts? I was planning on cutting the ply to the exact shape of the cabinet to keep things tidy/more secure. Just not sure if this will meets regs etc?! robbiep
Yes, it will. The (unofficial) requirement is that it can't be levered off the wall. If the FEO is dubious about the fixing, he might well try shifting it by hand by pulling on it, seeing if he can get a good purchase to pry it away from the wall, etc. Basically, if it moves while he's wrenching at it, then it'd need to be re-done to be fully secure

I'm worried about cracking brick with other fixings.
Nick_MSM
Thanks - the walls are about 18'' thick, concrete/stone with a brick outer layer. It'll be situated inside a tight cupboard anyway so no chance of levering it inside there! I'll crack on with my idea then
cueball
If using chemical anchors don't hang about as it will go off quicker than you would think.
