Both sides knew this would be a close race. All throughout the campaign the polls were fairly close rarely showing more than a 5 point lead. It`s very strange then that at no point during the campaign did I hear any remain voter saying that a clear mandate on 60%+ would be needed for us to remain and if that wasn`t achieved we should rerun the referendum at a future date. However now that the unexpected has happened and victory for leave has been achieved that`s exactly what they are saying. The so called "Millennials" are now throwing their toys out of the pram because it hasn`t gone their way and they don`t like it.

Well said DM, I never seen so many stamping their feet trying to get the vote overturned, it's pathetic.

I wondered how many are going to move to the EU..

French state giant EDF said it's £18bn nuclear power plant at Hinkley Point is now in doubt.

I say good to that, I live on the route they want to put the super pylons.. And it will ruin the area completely. They wont go under sea due to short term cost even though long term under groubd is cheaper.

Also if we are all for saving the planet then again its a good thing not to use nuclear..

Bad for jobs though.

Besides the wind, wave, geo and hydro style of power stations, nuclear is probably the cleanest.

The renewables just dont kick out enough juice for a power hungry country, although I would like to see more of them.

Just remember though,as much as we try to do the best for the planet, there are other countries that just dont seem to care.

Good post.

(I'll get my flippancy quota out of the way first - "The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter." - Winston Churchill)

Thanks.

Yes I rather expected that quote in return :good: Unfortunately it`s probably just as true as mine is.

im not going to get sucked into any arguments cause i will loose.......................what i will say is the ammount of money going into tidal capture is pathetic....they are doing i think one small scheme off the welsh ? coast in think....it will supply electric for 133,000 homes...and its there as long as the moon is there....then we go and spend (maybe)....how many billion on a train service that will get folks to work 15mins earlier..........if that money was spent on tidal capture Britain would be the lowest carbon in the world.....and it wouldnt cover the land in bloody noisy windmills....why are so many govts frightened of change and new tech...proven stuff as well ..

Nicolas Sarkozy (remember him?) is intending running against Hollande in next year's national elections. He's been across to London to speak to 1,000 French workers about the implications of Brexit. Amongst the proposals he is pursuing are big changes to Shengen, restricting migration and taking the decisions on migration away from the EU and given to member states governments, no accession for Turkey and some other countries and in his words on The European Commission: "It cannot continue to be an executive, legislative and judicial authority........".

Given that the current socialist leaning government appears to be dead in the water, it looks like a straight fight between Sarkozy's right wing party and Marine Le Pen's extreme right wing party. Madame Le Pen has similar, but much stronger views on the EU.

Meanwhile it looks like the official French policy on Brexit is coming to a more amenable understanding........

France has suggested it is prepared to reach a deal to allow Britain to limit free movement of EU migrants while retaining access to the Single Market.

Michel Sapin, France’s finance minister, said that “everything is on the table” as he appeared to break ranks with the rest of the European Union.

Until now European leaders have insisted that Britain must continue to let in EU migrants if it wants to enjoy the benefits of free trade.

But Mr Sapin told BBC Two’s Newsnight on Wednesday night: “Everything will be on the table because Britain will make proposals, and we will negotiate all these aspects with a desire to come to an agreement.

No arguments from me there.

I am seeing more off shore wind farms going up,which is a good thing, and I have a friend who works at ZF making gearboxes for them,he reckons theres 10 years worth of work for them.

Anybody seen this?

One of the things the eu were holding back until after the referendum, in case they fuelled a mass Brexit

If we get out we will of escaped in the nick of time.

I imagine our leaving has probably put a stop to those plans unless the eu has a death wish, I'm proud of the UK's decision to leave and shows that we continue to be unafraid to lead the way despite being such a small country, some of the other members of the eu will probably thank us in years to come, I just hope whoever takes over the top job in the conservative party is genuinely for out andakes no compromise over free movement of people.

My take on on the referendum is that the politicians from both sides have conned the electorate with their lies and deceit, making it virtually impossible to make an informed decision based on fact. Passions are running at fever pitch on both sides and many appear to be pleased that Cameron and Corbyn have been made to suffer and the major political parties are in a complete state of disarray. This referendum seems to have been about certain individuals settling scores and looking for personal advancement at the expense of others. It has been shown today how quickly politicians will turn on each other in order to take the advantage and possibly the leadership of their party. The politicians do not appear to be overly concerned that all this in fighting is hardly conducive to the UK presenting a strong unified front that will enable us to secure the best possible trade agreements with Europe and the rest of the world. Politicians need to remember that their role is one of public service. At the moment they appear to be motivated only by personal advancement: Me, Myself, I. We deserve better.

Going slightly away from recent discussions (but still Brexit business), it`s nice to see the Kiwis offering us help with future trade negotiations.

http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/684800/EU-referendum-New-Zealand-UK-top-trade-team-help-post-Brexit-talks

They seem to have been rather successful doing their own so it`s great offer.

Nice too to see other Commonwealth nations like Canada, Australia and India interested in opening trade negotiations with us as well as non-commonwealth nations like South Korea and Mexico.

I realise that such things are not completed in a day but still the future of our international trade looks very bright.

what a complete and utter shambles the leave side have shown themselves to be, if people think they are better in the hands Gove whilst the UK slides into economic oblivion then those who voted leave are truly deluded, one of those Hitler parodies doing the rounds on FB really sums up this mess nicely

The thing is Cameron should never have quit when he did in the way that he did. But where is the economic oblivion of which you speak?

I don't see it, in fact indications now say we are looking forward to a massive Brexit dividend. Even the governor of the Bank of England was upbeat yesterday.

The FTSE is rocketing up, it was 6522 this morning and still climbing.

Given that many of the assumptions on both sides of the debate have been proved false, I would like parliament to treat the exit vote as a mandate to leave but, once the negotiations on payments to the EU, regulatory requirements, migration and trade have been sorted out, those who voted to leave should be given the chance to decide again what they feel is best for Britain. Rather than another referendum, make it a general election with parties stating explicitly whether they will leave or remain. Only then will people be able to make an informed choice based on facts rather than speculation.

Give yourself, and the rest of us, a day off will you. Go on holiday somewhere.

There is no 'economic oblivion', nor will there be.

Things are a bit unsettled at the moment as we are going though a period of transition, but the only ones who are predicting doom and gloom and running around like headless chickens are those who voted remain.

For crying out loud, they're acting like spoiled children, from the 20 odd year old in tears cos she thought Nandos would now close, to the other empty head who said one of the best things about the EU was 'the NHS'!

The rest of us meanwhile, are just getting on with our lives.

A good deal of a young generation of men were almost wiped out a hundred years ago today, meanwhile the current one are whingeing about having to 'show our passports'!

For ****s sake, grow up.

why is every response so childish and disrespectful ? why resort to name calling and abusive language

we will see how it plays out over the next 2 to 5 years from an economic perspective, if we can leave and continue to see growth in our economy with stability job opportunities then I will be the first to say I got it wrong, I am happy to get on with the chosen mandate and try to make it work, that said I am surely allowed to voice an opinion.

I do think its crass to drag those who sacrificed all 100 years ago into a rant so I wont dignify it with a response

Because I have grown so very very tired of your garbage and incessant trolling to achieve a response. It is tedious and boring. But well done, you succeeded..again. Now in typical and predictable fashion you claim it is you who have been insulted. I think ALL your posts are crass and insulting; you're not the first to try to create a link between brexiters and Hitler, and you accuse me of being crass!

Yes, you are allowed to express an opinion, but you have some way to go yet before it is perceived as anything other than trolling.
