Lloyd90
Does anyone know the best way to catch a few rabbits (alive) to stock a pen ? The pen is about 1.5 - 2 acres already built! How many rabbits would it support and what's the best way to catch them without hurting them please ?
steve_b_wales
I'm sure that any wild rabbits caught alive, could, and probably would die of stress, depending on how long they are kept once caught. Drop traps are supposed to be good. They are installed in a rabbit run, and rabbits simply drop into a box. I'm not sure where you get them from though. https://www.fourteenacre.co.uk/design_category/rabbit-drop-box-trap/

The dying of stress was also a concern for me, although how do people with pens stock them to begin with ?

I'm not sure to be honest. Here's another type of trap. http://www.rustlertraps.co.uk/humane-traps/rabbit-traps
Cranfield
Anyone ferreting with nets catches live rabbits and could make them available to you for a rabbit pen. I kept rabbits in about 1/2 acre for 3 years and they thrived. Ensure there is plenty of water available and when necessary supplemental food. Keep them wild, ie leave them alone, except when you need the pen for dog training.

Cranfield
Burlap sack or box, as long as its strong enough to get them home safely and quickly. Make sure the rabbit pen has plenty of cover, is escape proof and protected from foxes. I kept a few chickens in mine, just to test the dog a bit more.............and the eggs were handy.
