Roadkill,

 

You entitled this "Old gat gun".

 

I could be mistaken but I think that is a Diana pistol in your picture. The Gat guns had all metal parts, including handles.

 

The picture also brought back memories for me of firing corks,and those deadly, but totally inaccurate darts. Can you still buy those darts in this PC world ??

The word gat is used to describe a type of pistol, it isnt a make, the type being the barrel being fixed to the piston, thus the barrel travels down the air chamber along with the piston when fired. the first to use the phrase appear to have been T.J Harrington & son (these are what most people think of when they use the term GAT) it could be an abbreviation of the word garanta (a tinplate gat advertised in 1939) or american slang for gun.

The above is a post war millard bros diana version of a pre war german diana :D

If you are into this type of thing dennis hillers book on airpistols is the bible :rolleyes:
