Since my foray and return to my youth on the subject of airguns...i unfortunatly had to say bye bye to the airarms iwas so called given....(i gave it back to the "giver" ) as his bottom lip started to tremble.................

as a result i have put the feelers out for a BSA Mecury Mod' "S"......which ....when i get hold of , will re-build, (in front of the masses)..........nowww....these ere' Merc's like to be fed the old Eley Wasps......14.5 gn...5.6mm skirt and 5.6mm head...........trouble is....they still make them...but the quality is rubbish...weights are different...lenghts are different and calibre is varying as well...........

so i thought i would attempt to make a "Pellet re-former/shaper"...mould....so i would end up with a true 5.6mm skirt and head...............

The donor pellet i have chosen is An air arms 16.5gn 5.6mm skirt...5.5mm head...these are a good pellet and the quality is regular....and the lead is even as well...

the next few pages are of the process i went thro in making the "press / mould..........

so we start off with Key steel.....it is a pure steel...and even in hardness...good for drilling out cut it up into the little bits i need...then mill on the side of a good fine grinding wheel ..then flattern off on emery paper sitting on a piece of plate glass..............

then it is clamped together and spot welded either end so i can remove the clamps for drilling out...

so it is then bored from the back/underneath....out to exactly 5.6mm....the flare of the skirt.....then turned over when the correct depth is reached and lightly bored to 5.6mm and the drill is reground to match the underside of the pellet head....then the waist is fettled with a needle file so it only holds the pellet and does not crimp it..........

the spots are cut off and the mould is opened and closed several times to bore out to the correct depths....

the head former die is not finished yet as i may deciede to change the shape and finish of it later on when i match it up to the Mecury S......

the skirt is ...(remains untouched at 5.6mm) .....but the head is now reshaped and measures (on average) a smigion over 5.6mm...RESULT

will continue the story when i get the Mercury S

hope you enjoyed.......

Nice engineering but don't pellets fire form in the barrel?

backend/skirt does...the pressure flares the skirt to fit the rifling..(works like the mini ball)...front end dont...................aannndd...that is the problem im trying to overcome ....
