Lloyd90
Will be looking at options for a second hand nice watch next year Something along the lines of an Omega Seamaster, probably the chrono Have looked on this site, they are all similarish prices although some are a lot older than others, any tips on what ones to look for or avoid ? Are specific years better than others ? Much appreciated http://www.watchfinder.co.uk/Omega/Seamaster/Watches?sort=publisheddate_dts%20desc&fl_series_ss=Seamaster+Chrono+Diver

Rupert
buy what you like, then you will love wearing it. I have a small collection and found TZ-uk a great place Providing you dont steam in at the beginning saying you are just here to buy so and so, i did that, and have a robust point of view, They have a very active sales section with some astounding value to be had but you dont get access untill you have served a min time period and contributed a minimum amount of posts. rimfire4969
Watchfinder have given me great service the two times I have used them. Last time I purchased a Omega Planet Ocean and part exchanged an Omega Seamaster against it. I got a great price for my watch and the Planet Ocean came fully serviced with a warranty and looking like new. I will use them again when I want another watch. Mungler
The last two watches I've had have come from here: https://www.cavourorologi.it I'd trust them enough to buy on a credit card and get shipped to my door (there's no customs consequence because of the Union). The thing is to have your money ready and wait for the right £ Euro rate. I reckon there's some poop on the horizon for 'Europe' and when it hits the currency exchange rates are going to bounce around a lot. And yes, I know Rolexs are terribly 'Essex' but they are international currency and easier to move on than an omega (for example). A client of mine (with money and 4 boys) bought each of his a second hand stainless sub for their 21st birthdays on the basis they could keep the watch as a good watch and forever, but if they ever got into any trouble abroad they could always get home on a Rolex. They might get halfway home on an omega.... Edited December 14, 2016 by Mungler

While crossing a road the next thing he knew was lying on his back with a BIG lump on his head. He had been clubbed from behind and watch stolen. Fortunately the incident had been monitored by a taxi driver who followed the robber to his flat. Police called and watch recovered. Friend did not get it back for 12 months cos it was retained as evidence. He bought another while it was on holiday...he now has 2.

He came out of a night club and received a baseball bat to the head and was relieved of his Rolex and wallet. Don't think he ever got his back though. The same reason a gentleman I used to work with sold his high end Rolex, he showed me a Swiss watch in gold with normal looking brown leather strap. Didn't look anything crazy. When I typed it into my phone it was £17k 😳 My brother in law had a Rolex GMT Master II in white gold for his wedding, I tried it on tonight in fact as we were having dinner but unfortunately it's out of my price range many times over 😂 Edited December 15, 2016 by Lloyd90
figgy
Lets face it would you go night clubbing with thousands of pounds of cash in your hand, waving it around. Nope not unless you wanted relieving of it. Time and place to wear expensive showy watches. I was never a Rolex fan until i saw the Cellini gents dress watch, now that is a nice understated watch. B25Modelman
Just recently I too have been looking at watches as something to buy (not invest) for my 'real' retirement. In the end I concluded that we pay a lot of money for something where we don't get to see where the cost is i.e. the internal workings, so I have slightly gone of the watch boil. OK you can buy one that has glass panels front and back but they are way out of my budget. I'll stick with my 17 year old RW which has just returned from its very first service...£130. old'un
Just what is the point of an understated Rolex? They are worn to show people you have money! I know a few people that have been involved in the jewellery game most of their lives, some are very wealthy people and have all the trappings of such, most own high end watches and jewellery but very rarely do they wear them out in public, instead they wear fake Rolex and the women CZ jewellery, when I asked why they said to risky. Its not the thought of getting knocked over the head that worried them but the thought of losing a £10000 watch or piece of jewellery. When he hauled it back onboard all he had was the strap .... The watch was replaced by Rolex.
