What a waste

Brakes my heart to see such waste, could they not sell them or strip them for hard to find parts and the money put back into the public coffers, just seems such a waste....http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-3658548

They don't care, it's just a numbers game to fool the easily lead public in to thinking something is being done.

I would love to know how many of these weapons were illegally held or used in crimes. I bet it would be less than 1%.

All of these guns, and an assortment of other harmful weapons including crossbows, shotguns, rifles and several pistols dating back to World War Two, will now be taken away and destroyed to ensure they are off our streets forever."

Just like the handguns in UK the police love to add their bit of spin as if a majority of these guns were under the arms of villains on the streets.

It must be comforting for the Scots to be reassured that, thanks to pro-active steps by their government and police, there won't be any more post offices or banks held up by criminals brandishing 'air weapons'.

Wonder what old Crankie's next 'nanny knows best' stunt will be. I'd hazard a guess that more people have been killed or injured by the effects of whisky than by airguns but of course whisky is a lucrative export product...

Makes me mad, the plonkers in the photo posing as if they have saved the planet, I can just imaging the meeting room, discussing who would be the best to do the posing.

How many of those air rifles, pistols, crossbows or anything else they care to brag about have been handed in by criminals.

I'd put my wages that its bloody ZERO...

So called clever people without an ounce of common sense.

What i find most riling about this is that were I in politics or the police and looking to preserve and pursue my career this is exactly what i would be doing.

We have allowed society to become detached from sporting use of firearms to the extent that this is where we end up. Pea shooters being regarded as deadly weapons and a thread every week about how to avoid being suspected as a sporting shooter by Your neighbours.

The problem has two roots, democracy having too much influence of policing and politics (not something i am arguing to get rid of) and a shooting population who regard their sport as a state secret. Consequently the non shooting population only get negative exposure and quite understandably end up with an anti shooting lean, which those whose career depends on pandering to the democratic wishes of the people in one way or another must follow.

The only way to counter this is by involving the greater community in our pursuits, something we dont acheive by pretending every west end gangster is looking to break in and steal our beloved twelve bore or stalking rifle.

Perhaps if we'd organised and an official 'home' had been offered for every air rifle etc, south of the border then Mrs Mugabe and her Nasty Party veterans would have achieved zip. Held for the day when any newspaper report about the SNP fades into history as nothing more than fish and chip paper.

However the chances of us standing together in our joint interests are pretty slim when all we do is bitch about our various representative associations........................

I also wonder how many of the better guns just might find their way into police ownership. We know it happens when poor old James dies and that lovely AYA No1 gets handed in......... Having lived next door to a senior copper I have a healthy degree of scepticism of the honesty of the police.

Funny you should say that, I was offered shooting stuff from a FEO in my local, he has since been removed from that post. Lol but still thinks he was innocent of any offence. Muppet

Id be surprised if these wasnt sold on south of the border.

When they say they will be destroyed it's total rubbish.

I had a 4x4 taken off me when off-roading after getting a section 59, they said it would be crushed.

A few week later I bought another and went to the local breakers for some parts.

Low and behold my truck sat there as I left it, and I still had the log book at home.

They bought it from the police, a lad I know also buys motocross bikes that have been (crushed) sold on.

All he does is go on eBay buy a frame and swap the bits over then sticks it on eBay.

Why didn't you get it back?

A S.59 isn't a terminal illness for a vehicle.

Can they not class them as crime weapons as they are now illegal without a licence and then sell them off on the proceeds of crime law thing?

It was in the news about some coppers from one of the islands up north getting busted selling airguns that were handed in.

It happened in Durham a few years ago, two coppers selling seized handguns to crims. Both kicked off the force and given jail time IIRC

My pal brought me his family air guns on New Years Eve to stay legal with Nasty Nicolla, a Feinwerkbau Sport 127. .22 in beautiful condition, with an A.S.I 4x40 scope, also a Crossman pump up air pistol, this seems unused in it,s original box but it seems to need a seal, as it will not develop pressure, I do not know how to dismantle this , any thoughts, ?
