So by a whopping majority the House of Commons have finally backed the governments bill on the triggering of article 50.

The Ayes with 498 and the Noes with 114.

Great result, unless of course you're Ken Clarke.

There'll be tears in the safe spaces tonight!!

Will the REMOANERS request another vote as they haven't got the result they wanted yet?

A couple of interesting/amusing things have come to light following the vote.

Despite having only a handful of other MPs to handle Tim Farron couldn't manage to wrangle them all to vote his way, two Lib Dem MPs chose to abstain.

Diane Abbott also appears to have abstained, despite the fact she was telling other Labour MPs to toe the party line.

Thanks for that DM, I have been out shooting pheasants all day so missed the coverage.

They'll probably start a petition.

Hilariously 3 of the Labour MP's who voted against the bill were whips who were supposed to be cajoling their fellow MP's to vote for it!! I think we're beginning to see the death throes of the Labour party.

It's a great day to be a swivel eyed xenophobic bigot :yahoo::whistling:

I heard an MP on the radio today...think it was newcastle under lyme...saying he would vote against the motion today even though his constituents voted to leave.

The guy is a disgrace IMO

Post his details in his area, see what happens come next election!

Chris Bryant, Rhondda constituency.

Best (and shortest) speech of the day has to go to Dr Julian Lewis, MP for New Forest East.

“Thank you Mr Speaker, in my opinion, the people have decided and I'm going to vote accordingly,”

I don't think we should witch hunt those that voted against, unless they're going against the majority vote of their constituents.

Personally, I would prefer my MPs to respect the view of the majority of the people they were directly elected to represent.

As far as I am concerned only those MPs who voted against having a referendum have a valid reason for voting against the decision made by the British public.

If they voted in favour of the referendum then they should be willing to accept it's result. Abstaining from the Article 50 vote would be acceptable if they do not wish to vote for it.

+1 but then maybe asking a politician to do the right thing is too much of a ask.
