Frustrating Kiss of Death

Could only shoot Saturday this week due to hospital appointment . Had a call in the week two hundred lifting off the rape all day so set of at 08.00 with DB and drove down to the rape after three coded gates, what a pain. No birds down but plenty in the trees, looking at the rape no real damage . So walked across the rape to be out of the wind and set up with ten on spikes two on the magnet . After one hour three birds and five dog walkers not on the footpath but walking passed the hide!!!!!!!!

Packed up and drove to the field across the road and set up again sixteen more birds, flight stopped so 11.30 packed up and off looking. 13.45 set up on a field with three hundred in the trees walked a long way with all the gear to set up with the wind off our back. When the birds lift off with the first shot DB decides to go to another field half a mile away to send them back. Pack up at 16.45 my total ten , DB sixteen. Phone Bunny_Blaster and he dropped off seven that he had shot ?

We all commented that the birds were all staying high and not committing to the decoys, we had all tried magnet , no magnet , Angels , no angels and just stand ups but it made no difference.

The frustration was that I had an order for fifty fresh birds and it's always the Kiss of Death but we ended up with Fifty Two, no picture as the birds were left in the Disco every time we moved.

I can feel your pain, its quite a grind at the moment and the wandering walkers are the last straw.

Birds flying around at a great height and when flushed, immediately going very high, has always made me believe they are new arrivals.

There is almost no gas gun, or shooting pressure in my area and yet the birds have been behaving like this for the last 6-8 weeks.

its good to see people getting good results in winter,in my 20 years of shooting i have had around a dozen bags of over 80 the rest of the time its been bags around the 9 or 10 mark,my last good bag was 92 which was 2 years ago,i do still have a trip out in winter just to see how the woodies are behaving or if i get a phone call off an irate gamekeeper or farmer,i now tend to wait for the woodies to split up from their winter packs.i shoot a couple of farms and two estates of 4500 and 2500 acres and sadly for me the woodies just dont play ball in the winter and it aint for the lack of trying,so hats off to all you folk getting decent winter bags.
