Been waiting for a wind.

No wind to speak of this week and I packed in roost shooting early last evening as pigeons were descending straight down from a great height without presenting a shot. Shooters were out all around and I suspect that the pigeons had been shot at elsewhere earlier. That and wanting to watch Wales v England. What a match that was.

As I write this from my bed having already taken the dog out I am watching lots of pigeons getting out of the roosting wood opposite my house. That wood was unmanned yesterday.

Weather conditions have changed over night and there is a strong wind of 25 mph or so howling in from the east. Unfortunately there is also the little matter of the rain which has soaked me once already today. Still I will get out on a flight line somewhere this morning, ensuring that I am back in time to watch France v Scotland which should be good.

Upon reading the title, I thought that JDog was subjected to some impending flatulance from perhaps last night's curry, so was relieved to read that he is to go out again today on a flightline. I therefore wish him a strong wind and straight aim. Good luck JDog.

Will be out myself later but doubt that my aim will be as good.

Further update

Went out at 12:30 in the rain and was in place by 12:45 and the rain had stopped. The wind was a fantastic 30-40 mph.

Stood in the same place in good shelter for two hours and had some great shooting and picked 11 pigeons.

It is at times like this that I wish I could have shared an opportunity like this with someone who doesn't do much flight line shooting.

Eleven from today and four dry ones from yesterday.

Just had a look in their crops. Five were empty and six had nothing but maize in them.

That's a nice result for a couple of hours on a flight line, definitely the best pigeon shooting if you can get it!!

I went out with little hope at 11 o clock and ended with by far the best bag on rape so far for me, 40 picked.

Did you set up a magnet or anything JDog?

That was an excellent result Dave and well deserved in these cold conditions , today was half a degree warmer than yesterday ( 2 1/2 ) but with this strong easterly wind it feels freezing and two coats colder than yesterday .

Like you Jdog been hoping for some wind. The last 2 roost shoots have been quite still and few pigeons about. There is a nice flight line along the eastern side of my big wood ( 1000 acres ) , but it needs a south or west wind to make the best of it. With an east wind the pigeons are all over the wood, but with a west wind they follow the edge.

Nice outing! Please could I request you use the same length of string when hanging the bag? My eye is offended ( and I suspect PC's) by the eneven line of birds. Also is it a "Right & Left" to start & end the day as you did? :hmm:

Tallest on the right, shortest on the left - in single rank...........MOVE !

Went out today for a dawn and dusk flightline due to high winds. Same flightline both times but about a mile apart along a river, unfortunately most were on the other side of the river that I don't have permission on. Had 8 this morning and 9 this afternoon, Many this afternoon had the wind behind them and were like rockets .... and many were missed.

Now then if he was to use tbe same length strings he'd have to take those nails out and level them up..........
