foxbasher
I've got a cebora pocket MIG 130 (same as the snapon) that I need a new clapper arm assembly for but the part is rarer than rocking horse poop at the mo. The one on the welder is plastic and susceptible to breaking, does anyone know if I could make a new one from aluminium instead or does it have to be plastic??? Cheers, fb

foxbasher
I'll try them in the morning but have had no luck so far, I've googled it and called every company on the first three or for pages of search results with no joy. When the part was available it was only £20-£30 but from what I could find the last few sold for just over £100. Hence I was thinking of making one out of aluminium but didn't know if it had to be plastic for a reason. Does it have to be insulated?. Some of the earlier models look to have had a steel wire feed assembly. Edited February 14, 2017 by foxbasher
muttsnutts
I'm also after one of these also tried every where but think have been discontinued, I'm on the lookout for a new welder, but if you do find a reasonable price supplier please let me know
foxbasher
Will do mate. I'm hoping I can make a suitable replacement as the rest of the welder is pretty much new
muttsnutts
I though of getting one made but taking one to a machine shop didn't seem cost effective, that and I didn't have a old one enough good for a pattern.
darren 67
Just a thought but would it be possible to get one 3d printed?

foxbasher
I tried them too but they couldn't supply the part. It seems the company that used to make it have stopped and now there's loads of people after them and there aren't any! The part appears to be a very common part to fail. I'm starting to look at the cheap plastic ones on eBay to see if I can adapt one of them to fit somehow Edited February 15, 2017 by foxbasher
paulnix
Can't see why aluminium wouldn't be ok as there is a spring on the tensioning screw or is on my Cebora 180, i'd try to find someone who could 3d print it first or make up one. scobydog
Have you considered a hand help spool gun? Would be a nice little side line if you could print them off on Chris's 3d printer if it was cost effective, just a thought. My main concern about making one out of aluminium is that I didn't know if I had to be insulated. Being that it's in contact with the wire and attached to the machine case. Would this lead to me getting zapped, seems to be becoming a bit of a habit when I do any diy electrics at home Edited February 15, 2017 by foxbasher
paulnix
Asked my local welding supply guy and he looked into them, he reckoned last parts he could see were sold in 2015 for an eye watering £105, maybe make it from Aluminium then insulate it from the housing ? Medic1281
Take a look at this one, http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/MIG-WELDER-SNAP-ON-TURBO-130-AMP-240V-LOOK-/351982372138?hash=item51f3c8c52a%3Ag%3A%7EEAAAOSwx6pYo4B0&_trkparms=pageci%253A76af9894-f3b8-11e6-8fd5-74dbd18088be%257Cparentrq%253A435681b315a0a2af08570767fff6db0b%257Ciid%253A11
Wb123
Looking at that part what has actually died? The major parts look like you could repair with resin whilst the minor parts may be easier to scavange from cheaper and more readily available sets. Paul223
Yeah it's only wire control, can you find parts for the earlier clarke machine? Very similar and could well adapt
