Suzuki Vitara help

Can anyone help please. My Suzuki Vitara went into limp mode showing fuel injection warning light. Car been at garage four weeks in this time they carried out diagnostics which showed following code po638 throttle body actuator range. Since then car has had new throttle body, glow plugs all wiring checked ecu pins checked and new accelerator peddel none of which has solved the problem. Garage hasn't a clue as he can clear the code and you can drive the car as normal as soon as you turn off the ignition and back on code back on and car in limp mode. 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

Ah not really an off road type car more a soft road one ok on the field but not much more these bloody computers do my head so I can not be of much help.

 

I would have thought that a Suzuki Main dealer would or should be your best solution if that is where you have been taking it ask if you can trade it in for a newer one and leave them to sort out the problem.

 

my friend an old guy in his 80s had a 2008 Citroen that had problems with the power steering locking up on him only when he was going very slowly the garage tried to fix it but as it was an intermittent problem they could not find the problem so he part exchanged it for a newer one not a cheep option but a safe one.

Replace the battery with a new, good quality one.

Trust me, this isn't a random guess.

 

Is it at a Suzuki dealer?

If the throttle body has been replaced it needs to be initialised to function properly. I'm not sure if it can be done with generic diagnostic software.

 

Anyway, try the battery first, and let me know what happens.

Been to Suzuki today diagnostic tests show's code p0638 (if I didn't already know that) Suzuki now want to check the wiring for breakages as there are some teeth marks on cover's over wires at cost £70 an hour min 4 hours if no breaks then faulty ecu 🤔🤔

Can't be ecu can it ??

As i already said, Replace the battery with a new, good quality one.

If I try a new battery will I need to take car to garage to have code removed or if it's going to work will it work without code being removed. Thanks for your help

I know it sounds quite a strange fix given the problem, but I've seen the same fault more than once.

Replacing the battery cured it.

I can't guarantee it, but I'm 99% it will sort it.

 

I know you can't always trust advice given on the internet but I do have some experience with Suzuki :whistling:

Well I'd have almost put money on that being the fix.

I've had this same fault before, same code, all wiring ok, throttle body replaced. Fault clears until you stop and restart.

 

Replacing the seemingly good battery cured the problem, and on more than one vehicle. That's not just a lucky coincidence..

The throttle body is very voltage sensitive.

 

You did get the fault code cleared after the battery was fitted?

And it was a good NEW battery fitted?

 

I thought the other garage had already checked all the wiring? Hence my suggestion to try the battery assuming this was done and no faults found.

 

Where did the throttle body come from, is it genuine Suzuki and have they initialized it?

.

 

The hardware side of the ECU is pretty reliable, there is a software update for the earlier vehicles, though without knowing your VIN number I couldn't say if it needs it. It may have already been updated anyway. It's worth asking them to check.
