the majority of British people didn't vote to leave the Eu but apparently we are leaving, so has Teresa may got a mandate to leave the Eu when only 38% of the population voted for leaving.

It's about the percentage of those eligible to vote. Of those eligible to vote there was about a 70% turnout I believe. The rest don't count for the purposes of the vote.

There's nothing to stop her doing so. However she can't rely on it being a Scottish Pound backed by the BoE. In fact in the last referendum all the major political parties made it clear the current currency union would be dissolved. What she's talking about is Sterlingisation which would mean there would be no debt protection/guarantees from the BoE. Should the Scottish banks go under there would be no one to bail them out.

Sturgeon thinks that repeating "Stronger for Scotland" will alter reality. There is a queue to join Europe - she is delusional. Spain will block Scotland and that is all that is needed.

Yes, her and the SNP are brainwashing people into thinking that they can't possibly not support Independence because the only thing they keep hearing is 'stronger for scotland' or 'we want the best deal for Scotland'. This is a common tactic when a question like where will the money come from is asked.

That or blame the satanist cult of westminster.

I'm well aware of that, but if other people are making ridiculous statements I thought I'd join in.

Some times I have a vision that crosses my mind, of a rabid haggis somewhat akin to SPG off The Young Ones, it's waving a Saltire placard and shouting 'Give Us Free'.

Must be too much cheese just before bed.................................

I think we, and the newspapers and the broadcast media should all ignore the SNP six months of no reaction to the stuff they shout at us would really worry them. Somehow it would amuse me to hear NS standing on the border yelling "Hello, anybody there?"

A typical national socialist ploy

Accoording tto the paper i read earlier it will be a new currency.

The problem with many of u is u will only be reading wot the english papers type, just as i read it throu scottish papers, i appreciate the bias, not wanting to steal the donalds ideas (that would be scary) but definately could be a case of fake news, or more likely quotes taken completley out of context to make better headlines and sell more papers.

Someone earlier talkied about banning them as a hate party, NS stood up at the conference and invited anyone IN who doesnae like brexit, never mentioned nationality. Does that sound like a hate party?? Completely bonkers idea but definately not a hate party

To be honest i think we should have a PW refernendum to ban talking about the refernendum.

I had a self imposed rule a while ago never to click on these threads wish i bloody stuck to it now. Lifes too short for this carry on

It just seems to be a bunch of mainly english folk spouting a lot of half truths and nonsense with a smattering of load of abuse for good measure.

Grrclark's about the only informed and sensible poster on this topic.

I think for me if Wales or NI wanted to go it alone even if i did have an opinion (which i doon't really) i would not be arrogant enough to persume that the residents of the country either cared wot i had to say or thought my thought were even relevant.

I definately would not try to shove them down there throats and if they don't change there minds to suit ur's treat them like petulant schoolboys and threaten to stop there pocket money and take there toys away

I'm no fan off any of the snp's policies or the party itself but i do find it insulting the way many of u go on about it

Scotslad you have many reasonable points, but perhaps you could put your point of view on one side and see that if Scotland leaves the UK it will affect everybody else in some way or the other. If that is true people are entitled to have an opinion although they should express it politely. We could say the referendum could involve everybody and the question could be "Do you wish to see the break up of the United Kingdom?"

Just a thought.

Scotslad.

For me it's just an interesting subject for debate. I receive most of my information from watching Youtube videos, many posted by Scots. So I probably see a fair bit of footage from both the English media and the Scottish media.

As a confirmed Brexit supporter it would be somewhat hypocritical of me to be against Scotland having it's chance at independence. However just as I felt the UK was better off out of the EU I also feel that Scotland is better off in the UK.

However if Scotland should choose to leave the union it's unlikely to have any significant effect on my life. But at the same time that doesn't mean I'm not entitled to have an opinion nor that I don't have the right to voice it.

At the end of the day the Scottish people, for good or bad, have elected the SNP and will no doubt have a choice in the near future to leave the union should they so wish to. Whatever they decide I wish them well. It's a great country full of great people. I just hope they make the right choice.

To be honest it won't really affect most folk, it won't even really affect most folk in scotland.

I'd say there is a massive question mark wether we've ever been 'untied' and i think it is generally only the english and NI's loyalists that really believe that

The sky will not fall in, there will be no nuclear wars/WW3 (which was actually quoted in the better together campign i we left)

Yes we'll pay a bit more tax and services will be worse but day to day life will go on, it won't really be a big deal either way.and we'll soon get used to it

Still be the usual get up work eat repeat.

I live 20 miles from the border so blocking it off might be a pita, but u just get used to it. So potentailly it could affect me more than many bu in normal life won't be a big deal really

Its this constant bitching from both sides that really ****** me off.

In my opinion it will happen some time so just get on with get it over with so we can all go on with our lives again.

As long as Snp can grandstand and blame the nasty folk at westminster they will never be held to account for the **** state of scottish hospitals, schools, polis etc

Also its the only way scotland will ever get Snp out of power, may seem ridiculas but at moment there the only party standing for independence, the unionist vote is split 3+ ways. After independence we'd hopefully get right/centre scottish political parties.

Think of UKIP at last general election, had a massive vote (althou not many MP's) do u really think all those folk that voted for them knew there polices other than europe?

Unless they evolve dramaitcally after brexit there party will cease to exist for next GE (hopefullly like snp would after independence)

DM how impartial or even factual are u tube videos?? Never watched many.

But often the type of person to make 1 is not the person i'd be asking advice off.

Seen odd chainsawing or shooting 1's and generally some of the worst advice/practice i've ever seen, usually u tube about sums it up perfectly

For me not being massively for independence i see a massive similarity with the brexit vote/campign and even the way the pro brexiter go on is very similar to snps cyber loony's, shouting down anyone who objects no matter how valid there reasoning is. Often seems the louder they shout the 'righter' they are

I voted for brexit too but almost wished it went the other way just too see how some of the nutjobs on here would of coped with it. If u think farage etal would of just lay down and accepted the result ur being very naive, infact he even said the fight will go on in his 1st speech when he thought he was beaten just after the polls closed.

They would of carried on the exact same way as NS/snp as thats wot they believe and exactly why the party was set up.

Much as i dislike her policies its actually nice to have a politicain that actually believes wot she says and is passionate about it and doesn't change their opnions with the wind

I think you are genuinely having a laugh. If she honestly believes what she says, I think she is unhinged. No queue to get in the EU. "We will keep the pound - no we won't. We will apply for full membership", without bothering to read the application form. Scotland would not qualify.

As for not changing her mind - do me a favour.

Problem is there are no scottish banks there all owned by English banks

Well I'm not watching videos with random Scots saying their piece to camera. They're videos of "genuine" (and I use the term loosely) media and some are pro, others are against. I also read through some of the comments. Obviously each poster has their own bias and agenda, just as in the Brexit referendum.

Going back to Brexit, I agree that had Farage not won he would have carried on the fight. But I doubt he would have insisted on an immediate Brexit2 vote. I think he would have been looking at trying to achieve a second vote within10 years. Not a generation for sure but a more reasonable length of time than that of the Remoaners or indeed the SNP.

I do see your point about her believing what she says. In that way she is very much like Farage, although obviously better supported. I don't agree with her but as you say at least she is consistent about wanting independence, although not necessarily so much about the fine detail surrounding that result.

She is, and I don't think I'm being unfair, a fanatic. But she is, to use a Scottish term, a canny politician, she couldn't have achieved what she has without being so. She is at times blinded by her dislike of Westminster but she knows her audience and plays to them very well.

Well I have just pointed that out to a poster on a Youtube video. In the last referendum most of the banks said that they would be heading south in the event of a vote for independence.

Last time Salmond even suggested that they would refuse to accept any part of the national debt of the UK. It was immediately pointed out that should this be the case that no country could then trust Scotland to pay back any future debts essentially meaning that any form of international borrowing would be extremely difficult.

She has never been one to let facts cloud the issue. I agree that she is consistent on wanting independence, but she will say just about anything to support her case, even if it is the complete opposite of what she said previously. That is what makes her a low level politician. She is a rabble rouser, who hasn't got the intellect to back up what she says.

She has the advantage of playing to a large audience who do not necessarily always look at the realities of what she is saying. The same thing could be said to apply to some supporters of Farage and Brexit. Although I think that Nigel is a better politician than Sturgeon and that his cause was more worthy than hers is. I don't believe she is unintelligent (although she's probably not as clever as she thinks she is) but she is blinded by her fanaticism and willing to say almost anything to achieve her goals.

Sorry to disappoint but The Royal Bank of Scotland Group plc (also known as RBS Group) is a British banking and insurance holding company, based in Edinburgh, Scotland. Clydesdale Bank plc (Scottish Gaelic: Banca Dhail Chluaidh) is a commercial bank in Scotland. Formed in Glasgow in 1838, it is the smallest of the three Scottish banks. Independent until it was purchased by Midland Bank in 1920, it formed part of the National Australia Bank Group (NAB) between 1987 and 2016. Clydesdale Bank was divested from National Australia Bank in early 2016 and its holding company CYBG plc, trades on the London and Sydney stock exchanges.
