NRA Probationary Training

Yup done it. You dont need it to join a club (unless that club uses ranges which require it) but you get your safe shooters card which allows you to shoot at Bisley and MOD ranges. Quite informative to be honest.

Thanks, it sounds useful, but I worried that the sales pitch over-sold the content.

Five modules seems a bit excessive, but I'm not a million miles from Bisley so the journey isn't a problem.

The course has to be quite intensive because once you have passed it you can book a target and shoot on your own unsupervised. On those ranges that means you have to be up to an acceptable level of competence. Its not just about shooting its all the procedures and the ways of doing things.

Its well worth doing it because its such a great facility, there's nowhere quite like Bisley

However it is possible to be equally competent without going down the NRA route. If you want to shoot at Bisley all the time and you're going from a cold start then the NRA PUBLISHED route is fine. I think it is important to establish what the OP wants to do with his shooting before we tie up 5 of his weekends and £600 quid.

BASC used to do a course for this for shotgunners.
