Hi guys im in process of looking for a new lab pup and someone has contacted me and after chatting she tells me the pups wont be kc regd but dog lovers registerd but says both mum and dad are kc regd and is offering to give me copies of the dam and sires kc papers and any other generation pedigree papers they have.

Now i have never come across this dog lovers thing so firstly what is it?

Second can i register the pup if i decide on getting one off them using the mum and dads copies of there certificates?

I should also mention that i was told the reasoning to using dl instead of kc is down to her not believing in the inbreeding or something that the kc allow or something along them lines so any help on this would be great to help me understand

Regards hatsan

Dog lovers certificate.

No real controls with this. Can't be used to register with kennel club. Can't show with it, although that is not a real problem.

Basically a DLC just gives you a copy of the dogs breeding.

This is the DLC site. Its mainly for dogs that don't or cant be registered under KC rules.

They have an effects code, but they can't enforce it.

DL registration means bog all. It's just a piece of papers, personally I think she's talking a load of whatsits - she has two KC reg dogs herself and mated them so I don't know why she's going on about the Kennel Club lol. A bit hypocritical!

Scotslad mykc does show DNA test results for each dog - if they're submitted, of course...

If the KC registered dogs had a no breeding clause in their registration on KC site or they failed the health tests you could still use the DLC site to register the puppies.

If the dogs have pedigrees you can still print them a pedigree on your own computer from the dam and sires pedigree which is as meaningful as a DLC pedigree.

For a breeder it's only £14 each pup to kc register them, I would call her bluff and offer to pay the £14 for your pups registration and see what happens next, there may be some bovine fecal matter that surfaces

it's £16 a pup currently.

Aye but i meant if a dog comes down with any heriditary disease, eyes, hips, heart complaint etc the owner/vet should be forced to register it with Mykc so other people who otherwise would not know about it and may be thinking about breeding of a related dog

.Esp nowdays with pups/litter mates being sold all over the country

In the old days (30 odd yr ago :whistling: ) when most dogs were bred, worked and sold fairly locally everyone soon got to know if any dog had an illness or ailment and folk could make a semi informed decision wether or not to breed (but that was before money ever was an issue/motivation for breeding)

A bit of common sense and restrained/semi informed breeding could certainly help to minimise some diseases and make the breeds far stronger health wise

There's dogs with the info up on mykc, elbow scores of 1 or more, **** hips, failed eyes, yet folk are still breeding from them & other folk are daft enough to buy them.

Sounds to me like an accidental mating, both kc registered dogs but there not going to register the pups, is it a second litter within two years so they can't register them, think that's right but if not someone will correct me I hope

Sadly it's not right, there's plenty of bitches about with 4 KC registered litters to their name before they reach the age of 5. In theory you can't register 2 litters in a year to a bitch but in practice you can.
