I listened to a radio 4 programme interviewing the NK ambassador who defected.

He was saying that Kim WILL attack the US once they have capability. He has serious delusions of grandeur.

Problem is that China have a nuclear policy only slightly less aggressive than the UK, and ours is the scariest in the world.

Do we in all honesty think he is daft enough to nuke USA....surely he must have a wit of understanding that he will be nuked out of existence if he does.....

Ah.

Never underestimate the mentality or mindset of such characters.

Being wiped out by the evil empire of the USA would be vindication in his eyes & those of his die hard supporters.

The cult of personality is a very dangerous one....see Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Educating Archie, etc. for other examples.

The USA would not have the nuts to even try it. North K might not quite have the capabilities to nuke USA itself. But there best buddy's ( China) could. The USA know all to well they have to watch there step very carefully as they also know all to well it will be all out war period !

USA is also fully aware north k could quite happily take out there bases and navy and pretty much all American interests in that part of the world at the drop of a hat.

NK has got some pretty good kit and ground force there not going to be a push over that's for sure.

From what I read on the subject Kim himself may not be the real power. He is simply manipulated by a group of 'Generals' always standing at his side. Would he attack the US mainland? Personally I do not believe so. All of the huffing and puffing is to try and regain control of the South which will never happen. The Chinese are into world trade so deeply these days they might rumble and grumble but they are clever people and I do not believe they will ruin their country by supporting this rogue state.

Yes of course the USA has more might. A hell of a lot more. Everyone one on the planet knows that !!!!

But ain't gonna be no afganistan were they are going to be able to spend 3 bloody months amassing there forces.

As soon as the USA tried to move in it would ALL kick off and China will join in as well

Not because of the friendship between China and N. Korea, nor the necesity of defense against the US,

but this:

Sino-North Korean Mutual Aid and Cooperation Friendship Treaty

The Treaty was signed on July 11, 1961 between North Korea and the People's Republic of China. It generally promoted peaceful cooperation in the areas of culture, economics, technology and other social benefits between the two nations.

The treaty is in effect and automatically renews every 20 years. It has renewed in 1981 and 2001. The most recent renewal will remain in effect until the year 2021.

Specifically, Article 2 of the treaty declares the two nations guarantee to adopt immediately all necessary measures to oppose any country or coalition of countries that might attack either nation:

Which means, any attacks toward North Korea will leave China no choice but offering any support to its ally, including military support.

Yeah I know Stevo, just thought the figures made interesting reading.

I must confess I didn't know about that treaty though.

Anyways . . .

I know what you mean.

But I never knew this though Latest figures show NK to over 1.2 million troops and about another 7 million in reserve. They have the forth largest army in the world. With China having the largest. Blimey !!

Assuming all th NK kit works as well. A lot of it is ancient,

I think I would be more cornered with the 5000 tons of chemical weapons and the 16 nukes that I have just been reading about.

I've seen a few different figures, but mainly from last year. The 4 largest armies are China,USA,India and N. Korea with China reckoned to have over 2 million troops, almost as many as the USA and India combined!

The telling figures though are in nuclear capability. China has approx 290 nuclear weapons, N. Korea has less than 10. The USA has approximately . . . drumroll . . .

wait for it . . .

5100!

It's doesn't matter, 290 will do a nice job on the US, the response can't kill more than once.

China have a very aggressive nuclear stance.

If NK test their new missile fuel system and it works, the US will strike.

China will do nothing, they don't want this.

I wouldn't want to bet good money on it.

A little thing like the treaty between. China and NK may suggest different

I would, china just don't want an exodus over their border, they have no military interest.

But as I've said China are as likely to use nuclear weapons as the uk are, the US need to tread careful.
