KIcks Hi Flyer patterns

Toward the end of last season I succumbed and purchased my first after market choke. I ended up with a Kicks Hi Flyer Extra Full.

I shot some good long range geese with it and thought I had better cleaner kills with it and the pellet count per goose was up with more head and neck hits.

So I thought I would do a very rough pattern test to see if what I thought was happening was in case true and not just a confidence thing with the new choke.

The patterns below are very rough and ready but give an idea of what is happening, remember this is only a one shot test, no average from 10 cartridges are anything definitive like that!

The cartridge tested are Winchester Drylocks, No1 shot, One and nine sixtenth oz load. All shots at 45 yards or there abouts.

The factory mod choke was the choke I use for the last 5 years or so to good effect. It wasn't a great pattern and I pulled a little of target. 73 hits in 30 inch circle

Kicks Hi flyer extra full through the same gun, Again pulled a bit off target but a much denser pattern 114 hits

Trid the Kicks choke through the SXP pump and got an even better pattern, 120 hits.

So the rough testing seems to show that on paper they do work and this then backs up the results I was getting in the field.

Cheers

That is the only issue I have with your test.

Interesting results.

How many pellets in the load? What diameter?

I would have thought that any make of xtra full choke would give a tighter pattern than a factory half choke , why wouldnt it ?You would certainly have got a tighter pattern with a factory full or xtra full as well ,or have i missed the point .

Full factory chokes should throw silly tight restrictions with steel being full for lead shot. The kicks I'm sure state full or xtra full with steel so constriction isn't really the factor more what it prints. But factory half is full for steel so your right that xtra full should be a tighter pattern.

Must pattern my new Carlson's with my carts over the summer.

Figgy, i use extra full lead chokes with steel.

I know you do with your homeloads to good effect. For some reason I can put full in my auto go on clays with game carts and powder clays smashing them to bits at all ranges. Put steel in go on the marsh and shoot like blind man. Don't think full chokes and steel would do me any good. I can and have brought down some good birds last season but going too tight might be worse for me. My Carlson's are mid and long range so one has to be tight. Great on clays.

The terror chokes can't be had anymore in that constriction.
