Duck Toller retriever

I would guess that there is limited working stock in the UK to choose from.

My dog died earlier this year and i am thinking of looking for a new dog, it will mainly be for wildfowling and one breed i kind of like the look of is the Duck Toller Retriever.

Has anyone here had any experience of this breed pros and cons?

Had many happy years fowling with my Toller. Bold swimmer bred for North American winters very gentle kind dogs great with children.Helen has had many years experience with the breed and I'm sure will be able to advise you as to their suitability.I must say that I have never regretted getting mine but as she is coming up to twelve she is now taking it easy.

Your choice I know, but would not a lab be more suited? The vast majority of the fowlers I know have them.

My wife saw the youtube videos on the Tollers and the scream they have, she said she would'nt put up with that noise so we are looking at a springer pup tomorrow :innocent:

Fair enough.

Hope you find one you like.

A Lab would be the best but it was a Spaniel we had and my kids and wife all prefer Spaniels over Labs, so it looks like its going to be a Spaniel we are going to see the pups today.

go for a springer cant go wrong i use one for everything and my mate is a serious wildfowler and wont have anything else but i guess its down to personal preference at the end of the day as i know a lot of good labs as well whichever you get it will be down to there parentage and there training how good they turn out although with a springer you will need to be calm and controlled around it when in training as they will pick up on your personality and if you are hyper so will the dog be :)

Knew a bloke with an Irish Water Spaniel,,Cracking wildfowling dog..

I assumed it was an Irish water spaniel that Figgy was referring to and that 'Lagotto' was a Breeder's name but googled it anyway an was surprised to see that it is an actual Breed and not one I had heard of.

Interesting looking dog and they look big boned and strong.
