I've got a PH in 270. solid reliable and accurate. you wouldn't want to be bearing your rudder to the wind at 300 yards thats for sure. PS I've heard of Hale and Pace the comedians but not Parker and hale. Back in the 70s they were the standard make that most people bought. The barrels were cold forge hammered for the rifling and were supposed to be the best made on the latest high tech machinery as opposed to button rifled. all I know is that it is accurate and solid British engineering.

Hi

I still have my M81 Classic from yester-year ('86) - still shoots well.

Had the trigger and safety changed by the late Mike Tierney, threaded for a moderator and the stock tidied up couple of years ago.

Still pleasing to my eye and does what it needs to.

Got a PH in .270, absolute corker of a rifle paid £150 for it 4 yrs ago, mate just sold his 243 PH after giving up stalking got £400 for it, no money for a very accurate rifle, they just aren't in fashion so can be had very cheaply also lots were made so still a lot around today.

I believe the Santa Barbara actions used by Parker Hale were built in Spain by La Corona ( crown) by Fabrica De Armas La Coruña. and are basically a Mauser '98. They are usually stamped on the left side of the tang under the wood line "Made in Spain". This may be partially or wholly ground out
They are identical to Yugoslavian made Mauser ( zastavia) except for the shape of the bolt handle.

You didn't say built by. If someone wants to pay tens of thousands of pounds for a rifle built on an action made in wartime and sloppy due to being designed to work after being dropped in a muddy trench, that's their business.

Your failure to recognise that anyone other than yourself is entitled to an opinion confuses me.

Hollands don't use them they regulated some they'll regulate anything you pay them to.

The civilian actions have never been to war and are bulit to higher tolerance for the top quality one than most. Your entitled to your opinion and like a lot of brits you seem blinded by branding it's surprising how well thought these nasty PH rifles are in the rest of the world.

No it wouldnt mine was £200 delivered ,rest assured it isnt just Dai,s opinion on them it works as its done for a 100 years.Good luck finding a Sako for that money your have your opinion we have ours as owner,s and user,s of the P/H im happy with mine .As are several others on this forum and around the world it was built for a price to do a job and will still be used by rifle maker,s long after we,ve gone .Mauser,s action is in a far bigger range of rifle,s than mr Sako,s for a reason

I wouldn't want any horrible sloppy action, regardless of brand.

Why anyone would buy a Parker Hale when the same money would buy them, for example, a good used Tikka 590 I do not know.

.

Show me a £200 590 that's fully working not shot out etc.

Don't get me wrong I've lots of makes of rifle including

Tikka 595

Sako a2

Sako 85

Remi 700

And Mauser action rifles

My Sako 85 been more trouble than the rest put together.
