L200 Gear shift problem

I have a 12 plate l200 warrior with 34,000 miles on clock. Problem with gear change from 4th to 3rd. it goes up the box okay, but coming down from 4 to 3 sometimes it doesn't engage even with double clutching. Someone told me it could just need new gearbox oil, but I have my doubts. Anybody shed some light on this? cheers.

34000 miles seems awfully early for anything to be going wrong. I know very little about transmissions but have heard that poor clutch release can cause many different problems when it comes to changing gears. Does it crunch going into reverse?

Unless you are driving your L200 like a hoon i cant see the box going in that mileage. What does wreck them is driving about in 4WD on dry roads and more so if in diff lock. I once heard of a young salesman wreck a new demo in a weekend.

  • 2 weeks later...

just had expensive quote from my local garage that I use, a couple of thousand :unhappy::unhappy: he said they will drop gearbox, send it to Edinburgh for strip down and repair. Anyone know roughly the price for this kind of job, apparently its the 3rd gear synchro mesh that needs replaced.

billy giz a ring have the best man on the plannet cheers george 07714 323 909
