bullet1747
After all the 10s of thousands of rounds I've shot from being in the forces and owning FAC I've never had a dud round untill yesterday , while shooting the .22 rim fire yesterday click thought I'd ran out at first (dead mans click) pulled bolt back to see the round extract with the strike point straight into the canal with lucky for me it was at the edge Any one else had any misfires

mel b3
i get them now and again in my .22lr , it happens every 150 rounds or so , i just blow a bit of wd40 through the bolt to remove the crud , if that doesnt work , i strip and clean the bolt. Prospero
Out of interest, if it doesn't fire second time what do you do?
Savhmr
Yes, quite a few on my 22 Ruger rimfire. It seems particularly prone to crud building up and entering the firing pin housing as well as gathering at the bolt face. You have to be fastidious in cleaning the bolt, and firing pin housing otherwise the dreaded dead man's click is the result. Had one or two with the CZ 527 over the past year or two, but that I think is down to a weakened (knackered) firing pin spring and a slightly worn firing pin. The rifle's on it's second barrel, is cleaned after every outing. I've rarely experienced a dud which is solely down to ammo unless it has been the HMR (ahem...) kenj
Lots on my Magtech .22 semi auto, when using Winchester 40 grain HP subs, a switch to RWS improved things by 95 %. Now using Winchester 42 grain HP subs with no misfires since. Also accurate and hard hitting on rabbits. I clean the action every every 100 rounds. It's a quick and easy strip on this rifle. saddler
Out of interest, if it doesn't fire second time what do you do?Try it a third time, maybe more.Common thing with rimfire ammo due to how the primer compound is spun into the rim. If a complete dud, pull the bullet off the case & pour out the powder. Not complicated. Used pliers at first...easy to do by hand once you know the drill, more a bend sideways action than a straight pulling motion.

fortune
I've shot many thousands of rounds and only had a couple of misfires. 22lr ammo is so reliable and consistent that it is more likely to be a build up of Powder residue, bits of lead and brass causing the problem. If you put the bolt into a container of petrol and let it soak the junk that comes out is surprising. The entrance area of the barrel and chamber needs to be cleaned also.
