Mike737
So, our trusty Rumpot has become porous. We discovered this when we took it down from the top of the fridge/freezer, where it had been steeping quince in vodka for some months, to find it had glued itself to the top of the fridge, and the outside had the appearance of measles, with little dark, sticky spots all over it. Now given that it is fully glazed, inside and outside, with no sign of crazing anywhere, it's a bit of a puzzle... Any (sensible) suggestions as to how to re-seal it? Or is it just an ornament now. No idea how old it is, can't remember not having it. Thanks, Mike. Edit - We have washed it out several times, but leaving it standing with hot water in it results in a never-ending bleed of the measles spots. m Edited April 9, 2017 by Mike737
figgy
Knackered, only way to reseal is to deglaze and re fire the pot. Ask your local pottery group to do it for you.
Mike737
Cheers Figgy, I thought that might be the case, but just wondered if there was something non toxic that would coat the inside. I think it will start a new life as a decorative container for reeds and bulrushes. But how on earth did you know there is a local pottery group? Mike.
