reggiegun Posted April 10, 2017 Report Share Posted April 10, 2017 After some advise, last year we put maize in as a cover crop, worked great for the beginning of the season, but the Badgers smashed it all down to eat iby December. Looking at another cover crop for this year, not sure on a mixed seed as I am worried if it is wet, the birds won't stay in it. kennett Posted April 10, 2017 Report Share Posted April 10, 2017 Sorghum and millet mix? Like s small version of maize but only waist high and stands well all winter. No feed value to interest badgers or deer (of which we have lots of!) Konnie Posted April 11, 2017 Report Share Posted April 11, 2017 As above on a annual basis, I am now on my second season of chiccory, and it's looking good, you will loose a season but you can mix it with other seed to bridge this on the plus side it should last for 5+ years. Walker570 Posted April 11, 2017 Report Share Posted April 11, 2017 The shoot I am a member of has a number of 'permanent' covers planted with perenials. They take time to mature and this next season should see a result. Maize is great, but can result in a sudden large flush of birds, unless a number of open flushing points are cleared.
