Drink water, sometimes you think your hungry and it's your body wanting water.

Gallon a day if you can

 

8 pints of water a day, you must be kidding, one pint of plain water is hard enough. Do you religiously drink 8 pints of tap water a day?, i bet you don't.

I have a 4 litre bottle of water , I add orange or black current to this in pint glasses throughout the day, every working day .

Any of you guys tried quick oats.

Put porridge oats in a tub with sultanas top up with Apple juice,coconut milk,almond milk or any liquid that isn't bad for you leave to soak overnight. In the morning add any fruits you like and Greek yogurt or Skya then eat away.if your feeling naughty add honey or syrup.

I have, but don't like the flavour of uncooked oats.

 

However, anyone with an Aga stove can put oats and milk in an iron pot in the Aga slow oven overnight and end up with really good porridge.

That's how my mum used to make it (but it was a Rayburn, not an Aga)

Mine goes straight in the fridge at work for a few hours then its fine, its not about enjoyment though its about being healthy, I enjoy a brew and biscuits or a couple of beers at home but drinking plenty flushes you out and stops you snacking.

 

We bought a slow cooker the other day and it says about doing porridge in it so its ready when you come down?

Sounds like a plan - try it. at the worst you've only lost a few pence in oats and milk

My biggest downfall is fried food & chips.

 

In a cafe it could breakfast with chips, Maybe a portion of chips from chippy at lunch, Teatime = fried something with chips

I'm at a loss what the hell do you replace chips with ???

New potatoes or home made sweet potato wedges chop them up bit of oil and in the oven 25mins lovely

 

Sounds like a plan - try it. at the worst you've only lost a few pence in oats and milk

On it, we love porridge but not time on school days could be a nice surprise in the morning

It's a training lifestyle thing, for my sins working as a allied health pro I've smoked for 20 years, I tried everything, patches, tablets, hypnotherapy, I've been vaping for yonks now, I'm not taking on the awful chemicals, but I know I'll never be free of nicotine addiction. I'm 'one of them' who just can't stop wanting nicotine , it's so embarrassing. I crave a roll up everyday, even with my lad having potentially life threatening asthma, at least I don't smoke anymore.

 

It's the same, find an alternative, there are ways of frying foods to be more healthy, the method, oven frying is better, oil choice and the amount of oil.

 

Have you tried going for oven cooked wedges for example a couple of times a week?

 

Sweet potato?

 

The simple trick is you choose the amount of oil by coating and roasting, real fried chips absorb what they like.

I am one of those who thinks that fried food is ok, its the obesity that kills you, eat fried food all day, stay at the right weight and you wont die of fried food, you will die of smoking and/or obesity, it brings on cancer in spades and everything else

 

I knew this skinny little geezer who scoffed fried all day, he smoked like a chimney aswell, that's what got him, not the grub.

This was my weight loss plan... Fighting as a kid and rugby league > broken nose > snoring > angry wife > visit to GP > referral to ENT specialist > UPPP surgery (google it!) > massive pain > massive pain relief tablets > out of it for 2 weeks > unable to eat anything for 16 days > 19 pounds lost and happy wife.

 

Here's a surgery free option- make the nice food and a few drinks you already have your reward for being more active. Check with your GP to see if you are ok to run and if you are, do it!

Forget fancy kit, just run as far away from home as you can. Do all the spitting swearing and feeling sick on your own then walk back. One day on two days off. Don't tell anyone at first as all the encouragement can start to be annoying. 3 weeks and you will start to feel much better as your endorphin levels rise and you realise your not going to die.

 

Plan B - as above but on a bike. Peddle like Wiggo away from home til you're knackered then peddle home like grandad.

 

Beware of gyms, as they only work for certain people and the same goes for exercise machines at home. Most people end up drying the washing on them.

 

Good luck and let us know how you get on. You never know, this thread could become like Viking's Land Rover build, my daughter is revising for GCSE English Literature and I'm sure that's on the list of texts she has to read!!

I like the above idea it makes sense.

 

One of the lads at work now doesn't drink on a school night as he puts it, we work rolling shifts so we might be off Tuesday Wednesday say but no booze and the weight has fell off him

Similar boat to others on here, thing is do actually enjoy exercise, love doing long bike rides, I enjoy visiting the Gym, a 3 mile outdoor run, 800m swim etc however I also enjoy to the two B's (Booze & Bwyd (Welsh for food)), anyway we keep trying. I hope to do a beginners triathlon in October.

Like others have said, I usually keep to the "no drinking on a school night" rule, but we've just had 2 Bank Holidays!

One idea I have heard to help people drink loads of water is to fill a two litre bottle up with water and ad either sliced lemons, lime or oranges. Others I know drink water this way and claim its a big help.

Circuits this afternoon at lunch time.

That's a hell of an amount of porridge, you will still bang weight on eating that.

I lost about 1 1/2 stone from feb to august having a big bowl of porridge made with full fat milk and added a good spoonful of sugar for breakfast and tea and a normal dinner in between but no snacks at all, but the key was I cut out all snacks and was active all the day at work so no distractions to have an excuse to grab a coffee and a bite to eat.

If you are going to lose weight do it the hard way, cutting down doesn't work, a few less chips etc is just a cop out

 

Join weightwatchers and clear out all your cupboards, dump all the rubbish food in the bin and go for it

I agree with the sentiment, it really is a life style tidal shift.

There's a lot to be said for a drastic change. Many men succeed with the 7:2 diet because the 'starvation' days are so straightforward.

 

I need to shift about half a stone from my midriff, and have started swimming most mornings. Trouble is that I work from home. At my fittest I was cycling 15-16 miles a day in London commuting, and I was in excellent shape. Now my commute is all of sixteen feet.
