steve_b_wales
I've made a fake nest, complete with fake eggs. This will allow me to take many 'photographs' of the wonderful Magpies and Crows when they come to investigate.

steve_b_wales
Cracking idea Hope you get plenty of interest. Me too. I've got my 'camera' ready. I made the nest by firstly attaching some twigs to a piece of Correx board, then used a glue gun to stick further twigs to build up the nest. I collected some sheep wool from around the farm, and glued that to the board and twigs. The eggs were glued to the wool and to each other. browning123
Very good Steve - it would also be handy for catching the first magpie call bird for the Larsen trap.
steve_b_wales
Very good Steve - it would also be handy for catching the first magpie call bird for the Larsen trap. Indeed it would. It was very simple to make, and I only paid for the eggs, which were bought via Ali Express for very little money. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/5pcs-Poultry-Simulation-Egg-Artificial-Faux-Fake-Plastic-Eggs-For-Chicken-Duck-Geese-Hatch-Incubation-Breeding/32674684019.html?spm=2114.01010208.3.2.KRSFvW&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_5_10152_10065_10151_10130_10068_5160016_436_10136_10137_10157_10060_10138_10155_10062_10156_10154_10056_10055_10054_10059_10099_10103_10102_10096_10147_10052_10053_10107_10050_10142_10051_5150017_10084_10083_10119_10080_10082_10081_10110_10111_10112_10113_10114_10179_10181_10183_10182_10185_10184_10078_10079_10077_10073_10070_10123_10120-10102_10119,searchweb201603_4,ppcSwitch_4&btsid=3c80ab0d-dcc2-451f-b008-98a7d54e130d&algo_expid=db253101-3a31-4072-9497-db9cf9479a5b-0&algo_pvid=db253101-3a31-4072-9497-db9cf9479a5b

steve_b_wales
that looks fantastic steve (i was very tempted to say cracking), let me know how you get on with it mate. I will do Mel. I made one years ago, using real eggs, and it worked a treat. This one is portable and can be placed anywhere. I'm going to add a few real egg shells as well. steve_b_wales
I've had loads of items from them. You have to wait a few weeks, but the prices are very cheap. The quality of the items I've had have been good too.
steve_b_wales
Further to me making the nest, I've improved on it by adding some real egg shells with fake yolks. (yellow cotton wool) Hopefully, this will be even better to attract the Corvids. I'm hoping to try it out of the farm tomorrow.

old'un
I've used quail eggs in a Larsen, worked a treat. Here's an idea for you...what about hoisting it up a tree? "Lofting nest"
steve_b_wales
I've used quail eggs in a Larsen, worked a treat. Here's an idea for you...what about hoisting it up a tree? "Lofting nest" I've already thought of raising it off the ground. There's a drystone wall that's toppled over, with a brilliant backstop behind it. I'm planning on putting the nest on the wall.
