Licence to shoot Greylags out of seaon

Recommended Posts

Been Pigeon shooting today and dozens and dozens of Greylags pouring onto a prime meadow, **** and flattened / eaten grass everywhere. I was shooting a couple of yards behind them as they were coming in but they took no notice and kept pitching in. I walked them off four or five times. The farmer wants them gone for good reason, can they be shot out of season and if so how do you apply for a licence and whats the chance of getting one?

General licence does not apply to greylags. An application would need to be made to EN and would have to demonstrate that no other methods of prevention were working before they would consider granting and the it would likely only be for a minimum number of birds to scare the rest away. Also, no decoys allowed.

Best way to scare them is with 308 or similar firing into ground with bullet passing through the flock without hitting them.

They don't like the combination of bang and supersonic crack going through them.
