Is this right I know of a family that keeps a dog in a cage most of the time

When out at work in the house and dog is getting fat as lack of exercise

Dog goes out on a lead for walks sometime but is it right to keep a dog like this

 

Also they have a cat that's in a cage pemernally it won't come out just get fed and watered stays in cage all the time is this right

No not right they do get well looked after but just not right for the animals

If I was at work all day and had to shut a dog up in a cage I would not have a dog in first place

One of my dogs spends a good deal of time in a cage. He doesn't seem to mind, often going into the cage of his own accord. After all, it is his "den".

 

Dogs don't get fat through lack of exercise, they get fat from being fed too much.

No, that is not right at all. During the day my dog is at home but has the run of the house and my girlfriend is in and out all day. Being a bulldog he hates walking but the garden is 120ft and he runs around that every so often. The vet says he is one of the healthiest bulldogs he has ever seen.

 

He does love his crate as a place to retreat too at night but it's not shut.

 

Leaving a cat in a crate all the time is just awe full.

Mine sleep in a cage from 11pm until around 5.30 am, rest of the time they are free to laze about the house between walks

yes to stop distruction of the house for small periods of time but otherwise definitely not. One of our dogs when It was a puppy would chew up shoes if the wife went to hang out the washing or collect the kids from school. We had to find a small muzzle for it. Eventually it grew out of attacking the shoes. It never chewed anything else.

Keeping a Dog in a cage for lengthy periods is, to my mind, nothing short of mental cruelty. If the Dog is only allowed out for the occasional walk on a lead then I would guess that it's life is a complete misery - more so if it is a Sporting type dog such as a Lab or Springer.

We use a cage/crate, find it very useful we can put pooch away if were going upstairs and leaving kids downstairs so you know everyone is behaving.

 

Now we have been out had a short morning walk as he's cut his pad and put him back in his cage fast asleep and settled.

 

Normally of an evening he can go in and out but once kids have gone to bed he tends to just go and lie in there, also put him in there in the afternoons if its miserable outside otherwise he won't settle soon as someone moves he's up, this way he will kip for a couple of hours.

 

Shouldn't be in one all day though

My cocker sleeps in a cage at the side of our bed. Between 9am and 11 occasionally 12 she is in a cage in front room or if weather ok she has a kennel and a 6' run outside. She is never put in cage for punishment but there are occasions she goes in for an hour or so as she isn't to be trusted to have free run of the house.

Nothing wrong with cages if used correctly imo

This is all new to me but Buster the new pain in my bottom (sometimes) only goes in his crate when he wants to an when it's bed time.

I've seen plenty of dog's caged all day (not referring to boarding kennels.)including 2 alsations just 6 doors from me.

My cocker is in her cage only 2 days a week when both of us are at work (missus works patterned shifts), but she doesn't seem to mind. I take her for a good walk in the morning and a good one when I get home, and a neighbour lets her out for the toilet and a play/fuss two or three times a day. She's not fat at all (cocker, not neighbour).

First place my dog heads for if kids arrive or strange visitors, it's a great item to get a dog use to. I pack mine up and take it away if I visit friends in Scotland, dog is used to it and will glady sleep innit at a strange house
