ips
Is there a decent set mag scope min x9 that is clear from 15-40 yd or is this not possible unless its PA.
Ultrastu
Of you want clear from 15 - 40 yds .then usually a smaller objective lens scope will do better than a larger one .id look for a 40 mm as opposed to 50 mm Also most fixed parellax scopes can be re parelaxed to what ever you want in this case about 23 yds . Ultrastu
I fave scope is a hawke sr 6 airmax 3-12 x44 . I have 4 of them and they are really clear and i can shoot from 20 - 90 yds on my fx .without any px adjustment .the depth of field on them is great
figgy
I like mamba light. Does all I need for not too much money. Hawke are another good scope. Mine is 4 x16 mag There is a few scope sites like scope bay where you can buy good used scopes. Edited May 30, 2017 by figgy

ips
As an aside what are folks thought on using fixed x6 mag for rabbit out to 35yd, enough or not enough ??
chrisjpainter
The magnification should be fine. Higher magnification doesn't necessarily mean a more accurate shot - that's more down to the squidgy, biological thing behind the butt of the gun. Remember plenty of people shoot with open sights! I've happily shot with that magnification at that range - especially with rabbits. all you need is to get a clear image of your target position. The advantage of a lower mag - and x6 would be in this window - is that you have a greater FOV. if your prey is skittish, you've got a wider field to see them in if they move, so less chance of it moving and you losing its position. ips
Just what i thought. I like simplicity and I have experienced in the past with some variable scopes a change of poi on different mag, quite significantly on one which got sent back as it not only effected vertical plane but horizontal plane also. Have compared the fixed 6 with my 3-9 set also on 6 and the fixed seems to have better clarity and is clear from 15-40 yd the variable set on 6 is not clear untill about 20yd. Ultrastu
That the probkem with fixed mag .of any number .it will be ideal at one range (6 x id say 20 -25 yds .) Beyond its too small and closer your out of focus . Persinally 6x is way too little for me .most of my shooting is done between 9 x and 16 x Depending on gun and range . figgy
Used to do all my shooting years ago with a fixed 4x20 scope. Nice low mounts and light on the gun, no good when the light started to go was the only problem.
Guest
My preference is x4 - x6. Any higher and the slightest twitch is an issue. As I dont use a bipod, the lower mag is ideal. The other advantage of fixed mag is that you have a fixed set of ranges against each mil dot. If you change the mag up and down you will need a table of mil dot / ranges (only the zero remains fixed). I dont have time to do that. philpotttt
I have five MTC Mamba Lite scopes which 90% of the time are at x6, x3 for ratting at night with the NiteSite on and on odd occasions x10 for shots out to 65+mt but very very rarely.
