Does anyone have any info concerning diesel vehicles, keep on hearing snippets on the radio etc....are the drivers of older diesel vehicles going to get stuffed, with higher road tax, and insurance, plus extra charges, have heard many are getting rid at lower than usual prices, has dealers don't seem that interested in buying these type of vehicles, also heard that the scrappage idea has been dropped. bought a 09 VW Tiguan earlier in the year, diesel, auto, so to say I had the ....hole would be an understatement. :hmm:

All seems to have gone quite on the run-up to the election.

So far all the comments seem to be either scare stories or wishful thinking depending on your view.

If you own a diesel you're no worse off at the moment unless you want or need to sell it. Then you might loose out.

I think charges are going to apply taking deisels into Cities.But it will just be the start,when the Manufactures stop producing them then that's the time to get rid if not before.As far as losing money on cars,it won't matter what you buy you will still lose out.Wife bought a brand new Ford Fiesta Titanium X ecoboost (petrol) £17,000 in Nov 2015 now worth £9800 (18mth old) trade in.Im running a C3 Picasso 1.6 deisel not going to loose sleep over it.If and when the brown stuff hits the fan will just have to bite the bullet and get shot.

a lot has been said and assumptions made by the press who actually know sweet FA about what they are going on about and the people who read it know also believe they are experts. I can see them eventually banning much older diesel cars from major city centres the first of course being London however i would expect it would be cars that do not comply with Euro 3 standards (made after 2001) then after a few years Euro 4 (made after 2006.) Nothing has been set in stone yet but any government will really struggle pushing through regulations that really restrict older diesel cars for the simple reason it would be a tax on the poor who cant afford newer vehicles. Motor manufacturers are still spending fortunes on developing diesels and the new emission systems make them just as clean if not cleaner than an equivalent petrol and they have to measure something, they cant just say ban a certain fuel type.

 

Only thing i would say is if you go into London a lot dont buy an old £1000 diesel banger as this is what will get hit if anything.

 

I take no notice of it all as its nothing more than a bit of ill-informed scare mongering.

 

I used to work for a company that was heavily involved in fueling systems for cars as such had good inside tracks to all the manufacturers and governing bodies that regulate all this, granted i have been out the loop for 12 months now but i know my old MD has just bought himself another 70k diesel BMW so he cant be too worried about the plight of diesels.

It would take time to implement and a easing in period. So even if you bought a new diesel car you'd probably still get all your usual use from it before it became a problem.

 

What would they do with all the wagons and commercial vehicles etc can't see them going to big petrol engines.
