Pond near Hornsea?

Going away on the "annual family camping nightmare" in a couple of weeks near Hornsea. I've taken to going fishing for a couple of days to get away from the arguments and general stress so I'm after suggestions of ponds/small lakes in the area.

I tend to prefer the small, quiet, hidden away places that generally have few people on them, nothing huge but plenty in the 10lb area to be pretty likely of 1 or 2 a day. Doesn't have to be carp but I do intend to put two feeders out on bite alarms and more or less lounge around and enjoy the peace. Any ideas?

Haven't fished in a while, but Ray Fosters at leven was always good for big bream roach tench and some decent carp. There also some day ticket ponds at fosse hill { brandesburton shooting ground}.

Plenty of waters around Brandesburton but many now becoming syndicate waters as far as i am aware.

Just up the road from humberside shooting ground on the leven Hornsea road is westlands ponds, there's a good tackle shop there aswell, also on the back roads of brandesburton there are ponds called green grass, and billabong (signposted of the main road) and a farmer called Rob Lee has some quiet ponds on day ticket near those, have a good holiday I grew up round there and went to school in Hornsea!

  • 3 weeks later...

ended up at the shooting ground, nothing exciting really but a nice opportunity to relax. The bailiff / groundskeeper was very pleasant and a shooting man so had a couple of short chats when he came around.

Biggest of the trip, I doubt it was over 10lb but plenty to keep me happy:

I don't do any sea fishing myself but from what friends tell me I think the Holderness beaches produce bass, thornbacks and smoothhounds during the summer. Slightly further north there is Filey brigg, a noted rock mark for wrasse, Pollack, codling etc and lots of mackerel if you fish for them.

Does anyone know if the sea fishing is any good or anywhere close by thats worth a cast ?
I am going on holiday up there soon and woulnt mind spending a bit of time on the beach

Filey Brigg is good, be safe though. Cloughton and hayburn Wyke just north of Scarborough have a couple of good deep gulleys that produce some good cod codling in the early and late months of the year.

Scalby mills also used to produce good codling for me.

Lug and squid best catchers.

Marine drive (Scarborough) was a regular haunt for me, high tides on a hot summers evening, great for whites and mackerel with the odd pollock too
