it all depends on how thick your arms are going to be. best bet is to play around with the arms not forgetting to allow wieght for the pigeon and cradle. mine are made from 5.5mm steel rod and are 5ft long. they are long enough to bounce but not too much if that makes any sence. ive not got a digi camera but i will try to borrow one to take some pics it may help you in your build. BOB

As an ex teacher of cdt, I may be able to give you a few pointers, although I regret that I cant advise as to the best length, as I dont think that there is one. Simply an optimum length for the crop and wind conditions.

I suggest that you research some of the proprietry products and investigate what they do.

Your examiners will be looking to see that you have thought about the problem, and what solutions that you came up with, and reasons as to why you chose your final option.

You will need to consider differnt materials, methods of jointing, methods of adjustment, and application of finish to name just a few.

Remember that with these school projects the paperwork is equally important to making the product.

I made my own arms from 6mm mild steel, spring steel would be better, but like your school we didnt have any in our stores and I was impatient.

it is many years since I tought in a school, I moved on to be a college lecturer and set up my own company when the college closed.

Good luck and keep the forum and me posted with your progress.
