What do you pay your accountant?

For the self-employed sole traders out there, what do you pay your (chartered) accountant per annum for a making up a set of accounts, dealing with HMRC, and submitting your tax return?

Thanks, I'm VAT registered but I do the returns myself. Was on the flat rate scheme until recently when they changed the rules.

About £1800+VAT

 

But that does include payroll including director RTI submissions, my self assessment, tax calcs for properties, holding company accounts, all HMRC correspondence and filing but not including VAT returns. We have shopped around and that seems about the going rate for our business size.

Just starting out as Limited company. £150/month. Payroll, HMRC, self assessment and VAT.

£250 +vat per year, mind you all he has to do for that is sign off the figures I give him downloaded from my accounts software package

I think we pay around £600 for 2 personal and 1 partnership returns, but we use an accounting package and they just transfer onto the returns and workout what is owed.

I pay £600 for what I get (in the OP), but he does get the figures from me in a pretty coherent form (no going through bags of receipts) and he doesn't do the VAT.

 

I reckon I'm paying top whack, but he's good and you do get what you pay for. After all, if you think it's expensive to hire a professional, wait till you hire an amateur.

 

Just considering whether to shop around a bit. Thanks for the input so far chaps.

For my low figure i present the exel in double entry format that he helped me refine, thus doing all reconcilliations and checks,,invoices in correct order, filed and numbered, i do however only have 3/6 sales invoices per year.

I was on PAYEbit had the accountant claim back upto around £1-2000 a year in expenses, I would normally give him all the figures and he would charge me £60.

 

Sound like the guys above get a much more substantial service though.

Up till 2 years ago i paid £540 per year including Vat, did a monthly spreadsheet myself of income & expenses to give to the accountant and did my own vat returns.

I always award myself a good bottle of Burgundy when I do my tax return and charge my team-members the same when I do theirs for them - (retired Chartered Accountant involved in a totally different type of business)
