Mungler
What's the best diving computer to go for - something easy to use, that is resilient and not bad money (I'll need 4 of them). I've seen all sorts on the Bay but want to go new from somewhere reputable. Cheers all.

fruity
I use the suunto zoop and find it good for the money , depends what the budget is . Edited August 11, 2017 by fruity
sandsie1
Just to add to Fruity's comment.... it will also depend on whether you want to ( or have a future need) go down the Nitrox route, which is why I have now got more than one. AVB
I have done about 40 dives and never bothered to buy one. Just borrow one from the resort I am diving at. Apart from my own mask and fins I borrow the rest.
Mungler
I dunno - they look pretty complicated and having one to keep and to properly understand and operate seems to make sense. Indeed, it's my inability to properly keep time under water that worrys me I'd rather hire the mask and fins . super sharp shooter
I think it's best to have your own and understand it. Also if you are doing multiple dives it will allow for the risidual gas build up so you don't overdo you bottom time on you next dive. If you mess up down there it's not alway a direct route to the surface. Looks like the gekko isn't made now but this looks like it would suit most needs and it a good price. http://www.deepbluedive.com/suunto-zoop-novo-dive-computer-black.html?utm_source=adwords&utm_medium=shopping&utm_campaign=g-shop&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI_aiQwLbP1QIVQrXtCh3izgg-EAkYASABEgKPBvD_BwE Edited August 11, 2017 by super sharp shooter
Kalahari
My GEKKO died recently and I have gone for a ZOOP Novo, does Nitrox and stuff and pretty easy to manage, David.

Gu5
Use to swear by suunto, but since having the pressure sensor fail (with rubbish customer service and no way of repairing) and then looking into how common an issue it is, there's no way I'd buy another product from them. Alex C
A computer eh ? Things must have changed since I did my Open Water. I had a watch, a depth gauge and a PSI in the tank gauge.
Bobba
Indeed, it's my inability to properly keep time under water that worrys me . Don't worry so much , what's the worse that can happen ?.Well, one major worry is that if he cannot manage time there is an impact on the management of air consumption. So, the worse that could happen is that he could die. The next worse thing is that he could suffer a bend and at worse a spinal bend. In 20 yrs club diving, 15 yrs as a BSAC Advanced diver, Open Water Instructor, Nitrox Instructor, IANTD Advanced Nitrox diver believe me I have seen my share of near misses. The rule is "Plan the dive. Dive the plan".

Rupert
Are you learning over here? if so hire the puters from that outfit, familiar and cheaper if not all of you take if forward Edited August 13, 2017 by Rupert
Mungler
We all did the PADI open water on holiday over 4 days full time with study in the evenings. Realistically 12m is likely to be plenty enough for any holiday diving and as AVB said, I quite liked (and forgot how much I liked) old fashioned snorkelling. casts_by_fly
I like my Cressi Leonardo. My wife and I both dive one and have for 3 years now. Single button simple. Shows exactly what you need. Like You said, have you own and know how it works. Then you know how it will behave in various scenarios and what it is telling you.
