WHAT 12g WADS ARE YOU USING, AND WHY?

Recommended Posts

Fibre and other biodegradable wadding.......I don't want to pollute the countryside with plastic wads that will still be in the ground/sea in a thousand years!

That,s very noble of you.... what about bio-degradeable plastic wads? An option?

Gualandi

Which one? Or are you using several different ones for different loads? Is it on price?

When they are gone, will you be able to replace like for like?

Plastic wads tend to hold a better pattern & they are much cleaner through the gun, a blessing in a semi auto.

Matt, which wads are you using?

I must confess to still using plastic wads, as fibre are a nightmare through a progressive loading machine. I still have a couple of thousand Plas-wads, a left over from the 70.s......made in Nottingham, and still, for my money, the best all round plastic wad. I do have loads of B&P and Gualandi wads which I use in everyday pigeon loads, plus a range of American wads such as Winchester, Versalite, Downrange, Federal, and my favourite, Remingtons. I am fortunate in still having several thousand American compression cases, so they will not be wasted.

I am keen to find out which wads are favourite amongst my fellow reloaders here on Pigeon Watch tho....................

There is a wide variety of wads on the market, from different suppliers, and I am interested to know what people are using, and why that particular wad?

Is it cost based, or for other reasons?

I load a lot of black powder loads and I still use the old Kleena and card wards with a rolled turnover

Does any of you remember Plaswads, made in Nottingham? They were a great wad, so good in fact that a certain well-known American cartridge company has one that,s pretty much identical...and came along a couple of years AFTER Plaswads ceased trading here...?

. Yes I still have a couple of bags myself. a mate of mine has the dies for making them and done so until a couple of years ago but had a problem with part of the dies and says it is to expensive to get replacement parts. and I agree they are a very good wad
