cardigun Posted September 1, 2017 Report Share Posted September 1, 2017 Hi, I have been using a modified version of Ed's Red as my standard Gun Cleaner. It is good at removing powder fouling, but doesn't touch "leading". My Mixture is; 1 ltr Dextron 2 (Automatic trans. fluid) ,1 ltr Paraffin, 1/2 ltr Genuine Turpentine, 1 ltr MEK. Are there any knowledgeable Chemists out there who can advise me about a Lead solvent, that I can easily obtain. I used to use good old Hoppes No9, but that seems to have been emasculated of late, probably because of "health and safety" concerns. Lead is dangerous, especially when soluble. And a phosphor bronze brush rotated and then rod through with bog roll. the stuff comes out black. bores end up like mirrors then mop through with hydraulic oil. A-Series Posted September 1, 2017 Report Share Posted September 1, 2017 If I remember my chemistry lessons correctly then acetic acid mixed with hydrogen peroxide will dissolve lead, but I really wouldn't as you'll end up with lead acetate, which is very toxic!
