catchthepigeonmutley
One of the reasons I love shooting is that you just never know what you're going to see. Went over on Saturday afternoon for a couple of hours on the pigeons. Just packing up when a spitfire over flew at speed. Absolute magical sight and sound. Mice!
Two small spitfire like planes flew over Leyland on Friday, don't think they were spitfires but no idea what they were doing other than having fun??
winnie&bezza
We have one that goes over everyday in the area where I live. I'm doing a big job about 12 mins from my house on top of the north downs and when you sit outside for a break you can hear him coming. We often see him loop etc. Apparently he charges £700ish for 30 mins! Edited September 5, 2017 by winnie&bezza
TIGHTCHOKE
Two small spitfire like planes flew over Leyland on Friday, don't think they were spitfires but no idea what they were doing other than having fun?? I think what you saw were the two of the Silence Twister aircraft flown by the Twister Aerobatic Team, they have the classic Spitfire elliptical wing. scobydog
Had 2 Spitfires and some sort of heavy bomber bit like a lancaster in shape but smaller fly over my house last weekend, I live near the old Woodford aerodrome so often see old planes who do a fly past. Dekers
Always a great day to hear a merlin let alone see one. Unmistakable sound that engine. For whatever reason they (the odd 1 or 2 that are left) seem to overfly my area from time to time!
TriBsa
Unmistakable sound that engine. For whatever reason they (the odd 1 or 2 that are left) seem to overfly my area from time to time! There's more than the odd 1 or 2 left, and a whole industry restoring old ones and building new ones. The Spitfire is the aircraft I see and hear most, usually most days in the summer. There's a twin seater at Duxford that takes paying pasengers and I'm on it's flightpath. Plus usually get overflown when any airshows are on by the BBMF, B17 etc. Sure does beat being overflown by passenger jets. ferguson_tom
We used to keep our steam roller in a friends yard which backed onto fields, when restoring it we were up there pretty much every weekend throughout the summer and at least once every few weeks Carolyn Grace would practice in ML407 over those fields, fantastic sound and very talented pilot. VicW
The BBMF Merlin engined aircraft are currently grounded because of an engine problem. BBMF have two Griffon engined Spitfires that are filling the gap as best they can. There are quite a lot of Spitfires still flying, whether BBMF's problem will affect them all remains to be to seen. I should have had a better look 😎
