Zeroing a scope

You can add a shim to your scope mount to raise the front or back. Before I fit a scope, I count how many 'clicks' it has on the windage and elevation turrets, then set it half way. For example, if there's 100 clicks on each turret, I se tthem at 50 before fixing to the rifle. You can also buy scope mounts that allow you to adjust them. Also, try swapping the mounts - front to back etc.

Had two of those Hawkes, great scope , great value but both required an insert under one end to get it centred. Surprised that Hawke have not sorted this problem by now. No big deal as only the thickness of a sheet of paper or two layers of electricians tape solved the problem. No problem since and today the scope has accounted for two squirrels and two magpies. :good:

Or the gun has barrel droop .Or a canted barrel or clips a silencer or a fair few other gun related problems .

:hmm:

Those issues will tend to make the gun virtually unusable.

A bent/canted barrel will give one usable zeroing point, anything closer or further away is likely to be way off.

No amount of shimming will solve that, or a pellet bouncing off a moderator.

:good:
