JDog
A coat would be a good help. I have a waterproof and warm one for my spaniel.

greenshank1
I don't use a coat on my lab whilst on the shore , but fold up an old cammo goretex bivvy bag for to lay on and fold over her. It's light to carry in my rucksack and helps hide her on the shore.
Gerry78
Springers are not build for really cold weather mate saying that seen some springers out fowling with neoprene coats on so must be usefull using one for the dog My lab sit all in day in a hide in the worst weather can throw at us Think you using a coat the dog will benefit from it
islandgun
thanks for the suggestions folks, I very much like the idea of the bivvy bag, Ive never known a more wet dog. I think he has some otter hound in him
Highlandladdie
I have a spaniel that comes with me. I use a jack pike camo neoprene jacket on her. Keeps her toasty. Build quality on the jacket has been OK. Zip is starting to part from the jacket though. A wee tweak of the design could fix this. As it stands you zip the dog in then fold a velcro flap over the zip. As the dog runs the velco pulls apart and puts max strain on the zip and stitching. A popper at the neck end of the zip would solve this. Other than that its been good.

If your dog is a wildfowling dog use a neoprene jacket whilst you are out shooting then one of those snuggly cotton thingies to wrap the dog in afterwards. You must look after your dog. He can't do these things for himself.

figgy
I use a jack Pylke neoprene one on my cocker, has a cordura chest protector and fits spaniels better than some as lots are made for larger dogs like labs.
