What gun would you choose if you were going to be stranded on an island and had to fend for you self . The island would have game birds , bear .wild pigs ,small game and wild fowl and deer . With the choice of only one gun what gun would you choose ? I would still choose my beretta self loader .

..........stranded on an island.... ????? hmmmmm yes gun, plus reloading gear..two sets if you had a drilling..... plus a ready supply of powder, shot, bullets and cases....assume you didn't swim ashore of course :-)

Theres a few of us stranded on islands around the uk that are limited to available powder shot bullets and cases as it is although no bears on many

Lets just use some imagination and dream a bit 😊

Did westley Richards make a paradox gun I wonder?

Well if youre going to be stranded lets have a nice gun 😉

All the best

I would love a 7x57 12 bore combination,I do have a .243 12 bore combination and a Ruger No.1 7x57 to combine the two would make a very good desert island survival gun.

Going off at a tangent here, sorry.

Do you have any problems with accuracy when it warms up somewhat with succesive shots?

No none,it will shoot sub 1" groups at 100 yards from a bench, that was with Federal 140gr

Cheers.

I had to do the quick fix on mine. I can't (age), the sub 1" is my limit, but  a Royal Marine small arms specialist who had never seen one let alone shoot one put his first 3 shots in a ragged hole at the 100 with my 22 Hornet.

I think if would go for my browning gold. It has a plastic stock which is not bothered by any weather. It can cycle anything from 1oz to 2 1/4 oz of lead. Steel is also no problem.

I've fitted a cantilever scope mount and scope to the receiver and used it with slugs on drive boar. If I was on a desert island then fitting a rifled choke for the slugs would be legal too.

Sound like a man of my own heart Gerry , I bought two hammer guns in March just before I moved house , they are nice guns , one is a Midland and the other is a Thomas Wild , I only wanted the one that was nitro proofed ( T / Wild ) but the other one was Black powder and had been his stable mate and being it wasn't a lot of money I bought them both to keep them together  .

When I get time I am going to take it pigeon shooting and hope to rekindle the joy I had when I last used one , if you were this side of the pond and within distance to me , you would be more than welcome to borrow one and come for a days pigeon shooting with me , you never know you might end up with one in your cabinet .

Good luck with the Thomas Wild, Marsh man, I have one, hammerless with 3 inch chambers a lovely gun, not sure about its suitability for bears though, luckily the last one died of old age way back in the 60's...:)
