Cornish lad Posted November 7, 2017 Report Share Posted November 7, 2017 The trouble is most blokes don't think it will happen to them, I believe it's the 2 nd biggest killer of men ? And if caught early can be sorted out ,it's a no brainier really it's only when you have sat in a cancer clinic and seen all the other men waiting to be seen of varying ages it really brings home the need to get tested regularly !!!!! Your right us blokes never go to the doc's & Prostate Cancer IS the biggest killer of men. Next Wednesday will be my last day at Addenbrooke's Hospital where they will be signing me off after spending the past 5 years every 6 months in at the cancer clinic waiting room for sometimes hours on end waiting for PSA check up results. Always full, men all ages most with partners a very depressing place as we all know why we are there, some will be lucky others not. norfolk dumpling Posted November 10, 2017 Report Share Posted November 10, 2017 My son has suffered with cancer - metastasic malignant melanoma stage 3C - where he was given 4-6mths to live 3yrs ago but his own immune system has successfully resulted in visible cancer disappearing. He has had no treatment aside from partial removal of the secondary tumour. This was following the removal of a mole back in 2009 which was not properly examined. catchthepigeonmutley Posted November 13, 2017 Report Share Posted November 13, 2017 Just 3 hours ago given the news that a growth I have got IS cancerous, but something called a Basel Cell Carcinoma, which is easily treated and not really serious. Had a biopsy 10 days ago and was told that I would get the result in a maximum of 6 weeks. Got a call from the hospital at lunchtime asking me to come in this afternoon - don't mind admitting I was worried. Turns out they had got a cancellation so slotted me in as my result had just come back. Still got to have it removed at Salford Royal and then have a small skin graft - but am most certainly not complaining. Having PSA's for prostate cancer as strong family history. My Dad's had it for nearly 20 years and is still going at 91 - his specialist says he will almost certainly die of something else! My last PSA in May was 2.7. GP recommended a test every 2 years, but a chap at work who is with Prostate Cancer UK says to definitely get it checked yearly. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
