Rust removal

Over on a FB car forum, this chap explains how he uses a tub of water, a lump of steel and a car battery charger to get the rust to leave a car part and attach itself to the scrap steel.    Would this be a good way of getting rust off an AYA action without losing the case hardening marks?

He is using the steel as an anode to attract the oxide. Depends on the amount of rust because if there is just a coating of light stuff then using 0000 steel wool and a bit of oil will shift it easily enough. However if the steel is pitted then it won't matter a jot if you remove the rust because it will still be pitted underneath and the anode won't remove that.

If on the barrel would this remove blueing??

Saw a lovely gun recently but it’s got a rust spot on the barrel, and also on a gold in-lay pheasant by the look of it!

As long as you are very light with the 0000 wool, and stop as soon as the rust is gone, then no. It'll be fine, I have done this on my SX3 manys a time.
