Look at my wood!

Just finished stripping and refinishing the stock on my 1936 browning auto-5 for the second time since I have owned the gun. I have spent over two months on it this time and I am amazed at what I uncovered. I think it’s a beautiful piece of walnut and certainly better than any I have seen on any other auto5.

Ignore the  physchedelic carpet but thought I would share a pic!

is that a carpet skull on the top right or is it just me?

Now that is seriously creepy!

The carpet was in the house when we bought it 3 years ago and we have avoided changing it while we have been renovating its going next Thursday to be replaced by something that doesn't make me feel sea sick when I return from the pub!

The skull is indeed weird and I haven't noticed it, now I am thinking whether I might face a supernatural event when I rip it up and take it to  the dump!

Mate- regardless of condition, stick it on ebay under 'retro' ?

Some rich kid from Camden will bite your arm off for that.

I was in Brick Lane last week....... awful outdated stuff like this was selling for BIG figures, no joke.

Agreed but that’s beyond my ability.

I bought a set of 3 wire brushes in one of the £1 shops. Used carefully with some white spirit and an awful lot of 'crud' will come out of that chequering.

Can I ask what you used to strip the old finish  ?
